In a flash, July is about to arrive, which means we are getting really close to the Dallas Cowboys roster cuts that are set to take place after the summer windup to the regular season in September.
There is so much anticipation for this season, largely because of the additions we’ve seen over this past offseason in free agency and in the draft; in the secondary, in particular, there has been a huge overhaul after a poor 2025 performance.
We saw a lot of guys step up into roles in the secondary due to injuries and, again, just outright poor performance.
Unfortunately for them, I think we may see a pair of these players included in these cuts. Let’s talk about it.
Reddy Steward & Trikweze Bridges: Tons of Playing Time in ’25 to Cut in ’26?
If you managed to stay plugged in to the Cowboys’ defense last season, despite your instincts telling you to look away, you’re probably thinking this is a bit of a harsh reaction.
After all, Reddy Steward played in all 17 games for the Cowboys last season, and by the end of the year, he finished with a ton of defensive snaps; 63 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three passes defended, and a forced fumble is not a bad return at all for a player Dallas claimed off waivers.
Trikweze Bridges did not have the same full-season impact, but he did play in 16 games and had moments as well. His interception against Denver was the highlight, especially considering how much the defense struggled to force turnovers throughout the year.
The problem for these guys is the aforementioned additions to the unit. The front office was not comfortable rolling into 2026 with these two at the front of the line again.
Dallas signed free agent CB Cobie Durant, and safeties P.J. Locke and Jalen Thompson, and they drafted CB/S Caleb Downs in the first round and CB Devin Moore in the fourth round. Shavon Revel Jr., Derion Kendrick, Caelen Carson, and Josh Butler are also still in the picture.
Throw in DaRon Bland headlining the group, and presumably healthy, and this thing becomes a legitimate squeeze to fit both Bridges and Steward on the 53-man roster.
The other options are likely higher priorities to keep for Dallas, especially in the case of Revel, Carson, and the rookie Moore. The Cowboys used draft capital on these guys and will be more eager to give them chances than a pair of waiver pickups.
