Cowboys’ WR Michael Gallup is More Important Than Ever After Week 1

Michael Gallup is an integral part to the Cowboy success in 2020.

When people talk about the offensive firepower the Dallas Cowboys have been able to put together this season, Michael Gallup’s name isn’t one that quickly comes to mind. Despite coming off a 1,000 yard season, Gallup still doesn’t receive the kind of respect he probably deserves. But, that could be changing after the way things went down in Week 1.

Call me crazy if you want, but I believe Michael Gallup is more important than ever after the Dallas Cowboys loss last week at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams. If not for the questionable offensive pass interference call, Gallup likely would’ve been the hero last week. Sadly that wasn’t the case, but don’t be surprised if he’s the one leading the charge from here on out.

As things stand right now, Michael Gallup is arguably the most dependable offensive weapon the Dallas Cowboys have at their disposal, minus Ezekiel Elliott of course. I know it sounds crazy, but if you hang in there just a little longer I think I can lay this out a little better to sway you to my way of thinking.

As much as I hate to say it, the Dallas Cowboys can’t rely on Amari Cooper staying healthy for an entire season. He’s already dealing with yet another foot injury, something that plagued him throughout the season last year as well. Add that to Blake Jarwin’s season-ending knee injury, No. 13’s importance becomes a little more clear.

With Amari Cooper banged up and Blake Jarwin out for the season, the Dallas Cowboys suddenly have a little less firepower at their disposal. Hopefully Cooper is just being treated with baby gloves to keep him as healthy as possible, but Jarwin’s loss is no doubt a big blow. Regardless, Michael Gallup more than likely becomes the top target in the passing game.

I know there are high expectations for CeeDee Lamb, but he is a rookie after all and hasn’t had the time to build the same kind of bond with Dak Prescott as Michael Gallup has. There was a reason last week Prescott went to Gallup when the game was on the line, which to me is all the proof I need of Gallup’s importance to the team this season.

I could be completely wrong, but I truly believe Michael Gallup is going to be an integral piece to the Dallas Cowboys success or failure this season. With Amari Cooper’s unreliable health and CeeDee Lamb’s inexperience, Gallup is more important than ever in my opinion. He is now under the spotlight. Hopefully he’s up to the challenge.

What do you think?

  1. I’m with you you Brian I thought MG was a bright spot for our offense and I hope he can continue to be! If he can stay focused and not drop many balls this year that would certainly take pressure off AC and even DP!

  2. U made some good points Brian. As I said before drafting Lamb may have turned out to be a necessity rather than luxury, what with Coopers recent injury history. It doesn’t bode well that AC had injury issues before the season even started. That dropped ball ( I know he took a hit) on 3rd down killed a crucial drive. Not sure he is our clear cut #1 WR anymore.
