Recently, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott talked with David Mino and Justin Monty of 96.7 The Ticket to discuss his thoughts on this off-season among other topics.
Early on in the conversation, which was shared via the DFW sports station’s Twitter account, Prescott was asked about whether or not this offseason felt any different than last year’s.
First, he talked through the list of coaching staff changes and player additions that have occurred since the beginning of the year.
Then, he added:
“You’re able to take now two 12-win seasons over into this one and build. First time in my career I can say I feel like consecutive seasons are building. Going back to 2021, we’ve been able to build. We built that year, and now we can build again. And I think that’s the best real chance that you have of making it.”
By “making it,” one can only assume he’s referring to accomplishing a the ever-elusive deep off-season run.
Or better yet, a championship.
IN RESPONSE…
When Jon Machota shared the quote via tweet, reactions from fans were mixed.
Some found it disingenuous. They claimed he that was just saying the “right” things as the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback and the face of the team.
Dak Prescott on @dfwticket on the Cowboys’ upcoming season:
“You’re able to take two 12-win seasons over into this one and build. It’s the first time in my career I can say I feel like consecutive seasons are building. Going back to 2021, we’ve been able to build. We built that…

Others definitely bought into the message. They, too, believe the team is building on back-to-back good, winning seasons and that recent changes can push the Cowboys over the hump.
But there were also several people who said something along the lines of, “He says this every year.”
Firstly, it’s impossible for him to say this every year. This is the first time he’s experienced consecutive 12-win seasons, so there’s no way he’s said or felt this before.
Secondly, even if you want to argue that the general message of growth and improvement is not a new one, that doesn’t mean it’s not an honest one.
The Dallas Cowboys, as a team, have improved each season over the past few years.
A simple anecdotal comparison of last offseason to this one reveals that Dak Prescott has a point.
LET’S COMPARE
During the 2022 offseason, there were:
- rumors of Sean Payton replacing Mike McCarthy before the 2022 season ended
- questions about the wide receiver room that went unanswered as the regular season began
- questions about the offensive line that also went unanswered
- concerns about the efficacy of a relatively inexperienced offensive coordinator
Going into the 2023 season, not only do we not hear whispers about Mike McCarthy being replaced, but his role has actually expanded.
And that role expanded due to the dismissal of an OC that did not inspire confidence in fans, and perhaps not in the team either.
According to Bryan Broaddus, the team is happy that Kellen Moore is gone. That doesn’t happen with every fired coach, and it certainly doesn’t happen for no reason.
Although there are questions about the offensive line, they’re more like, “Who will go where?” as opposed to, “Do we even have someone to go there?”
As for those wide receiver questions, CeeDee Lamb has definitely answered any questions that existed about him. He’s also shut down any rebuttals.
With the improved health of Michael Gallup and the addition of Brandin Cooks, the questions about the wide receiver room have gone from, “Does Dak have enough weapons?” to “Might the Cowboys carry six receivers on their roster this year?”
One more thing that can’t be ignored is how many times we’ve heard different members of the Cowboys offense mention not being on the same page.
With Mike McCarthy getting everyone on the same page on top of all the improvements the team is experiencing, that definitely sounds like building off of prior success to me.
Honestly after watching Dak for 7 years nothing changes. He continues to make the same mistakes. Then the media blames everyone else and call you a hater! O course the fact is he’s 2-4 in the playoffs!
Jerry Mayfield I really don’t know what you’ve been watching.
Jerry Mayfield The 7 Year argument once again
William T Clark Jr been watching people who hate Romo make a bunch of excuses like play calling when Dak gags away another big game. You know like SF 2 years in a row
Michael Evans it will be 8 year argument soon enough
Hank Armentrout I see you’re still hanging around clueless. I guess you didn’t see all of the bad, none-catches by receivers especially Shultz. I guess you didn’t see the interview with McCarthy saying there were bad play calling. For you and others haters to continue blame Dak for EVERYTHING that goes wrong with the TEAM is straight ludicrous.
William T Clark Jr I guess I saw a dropped pick 6 by Dre Greenlaw or it woulda been 26-12 and Blak Prescott woulda had 3 picks. Gagging azz loser Piece of Shi+
So you’re problem isn’t with Dak, it’s with the fact that he’s “Blak” gotcha. Nothing like having to show the world your bigotry. And I love that you use that 1 INT as your example and not the countless INTs caused by WRs that couldn’t catch, ran the wrong route or bad play calling. He doesn’t get a full pass, some were on him but not all. But hey, you do you boo.
Hank Armentrout so why are you even concerned? Just change teams, problem solved. Because Dakota is quarterback of the Cowboys. So, bye
William T Clark Jr no I’ll be right here pointing out once again how azz he is in big games just like your people did with Romo
Hank Armentrout “your people?” Who the heck is that?
Hank Armentrout I don’t know what you’re trying to insinuate, well yes I do. I’ve been a die hard Cowboys fan since ’71 I don’t degrade any player, especially on the team that I chose to be a fan of. So you can move around with that racial under tone that you’re TRYING to make.
William T Clark Jr you can use any excuse you want .But the QB gets the glory .But also takes the blame .More then not it’s Daks fault on passing the receivers have no chance .
Mts Footpegs thank you so much coach. https://youtu.be/qAukunmhZPM
William T Clark Jr and as if your some one every one should listen to .Here’s a clue ,,YOUR NOT
Mts Footpegs will you re-write that so it can be understood please? Thank you
William T Clark Jr I said as IF YOUR SOME ONE A PERSON SHOULD LISTEN TO ,,,NOT .You only have opinions like every one else .You Aint crap
William T Clark Jr why are you concerned .Just because someone not a fan of a player .Does not mean they should change teams .Like I’m sure if Dak was white QB playing like this ,you’d still love him
William T Clark Jr why are you concerned .Just because someone not a fan of a player .Does not mean they should change teams .Like I’m sure if Dak was white QB playing like this ,you’d still love him
Mts Footpegs color, race has zero to do with me, now maybe that’s YOUR problem that he is black. I’ve been a fan since ’71 how many black QBs has the Cowboys had? You can keep it moving with that “stoopid” comment.
William T Clark Jr my wife is half black and Choctaw Indian .More minority then you’ll ever be .And Cowboys have had a few black QBs and still went no where with them either .3 Cowboy QBs are worth discussing .Actually 2 but we will do 3
Mts Footpegs “my best friend is black” First off I don’t consider myself to be a minority. 2. I NEVER said there hadn’t been Black quarterbacks with Dallas. I said since ’71. Who are your 3 worth discussing?
William T Clark Jr Roger,,Troy and third be Danny
Mts Footpegs these are a few individual first 7 years stats.
Staubach

I know I know “stats don’t mean anything.” But for some reason the NFL keeps them.
Different NFL, even from when Aikman was playing, but especially the NFL that Staubach and White played in.
You put Staubach in today’s NFL and his numbers would be well ahead of Prescott’s. Back then DBs committed assault and battery on the receivers on every play and the QBs were not protected by the refs like they are today.
It was a run-oriented league back then, not the passapalooza of today’s NFL. And Staubach had considerable more than 769 yards in seven seasons.
And finally, the only stat that matters when comparing players from different eras are championships:
Aikman: 3
Staubach: 2
Prescott: …. Buehler? Buehler?
William T Clark Jr and what does he have ..SUPER BOWL RINGS ,,,..Thank good Dak is 27-7 in the East
Mts Footpegs thank good?? I don’t know why you idiots think that only a Superbowl ring makes a QB. Well sir ask 21 year season Vinny Testaverde, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, Jim Kelly etc… It takes an entire team(COACHING INCLUDED). It too Drew Brees 9 years and two TEAMS to land on with the Saints. So, team matters.
William T Clark Jr QB is the only position that keeps stats on Win/Losses for QB .They get the glory ,so they can take the Crap .And yes QB to be great need a Super Bowl WIN ..Period
Mts Footpegs what are you talking about? A lot of great QBs never won a Superbowl? Marino is without a doubt the greatest quarterback to never win a title. Could that be contributed to TEAM play, coaching etc?
William T Clark Jr makes them
Very good ,not great .QB is the most important position .It’s not only needs athleticism ,But you need to be a smart QB and that’s not Dak .Sorry to break your bubble.Sorry for you Dak man crush tho
Mts Footpegs ok coach, thank you
William T Clark Jr that’s how I think about you know it all .So did AIKMAN say he did NOT want to be drafted by dallas ,?
Mts Footpegs I haven’t seen nor heard that. And I’m not paying for a subscription to get something to find out what I already know.
William T Clark Jr it’s not a subscription .It’s on about Dallas Dynasty of the 90s
Mts Footpegs ok maybe I will stumble on it someday. As I stated before, I really don’t care, he played for the cowboys.
William T Clark Jr yeah you know I’m right .So STUMBLE on it some day .Remember with Dak it will be 1 and done again this year
First time anybody ever led the NFL in interceptions despite missing 5 games. Aaron Rodgers played the entire season with the same injury chosing no surgery
They didn’t have the same injury…. Daks was broken, Rodgers was not!! And btw, it’s CHOOSING not CHOSING
Let’s Go Cowboys!

Media:
we’re not looking for another consecutive season. we’re looking for a championship season. we need to get past the playoffs if not that’s all we’re going to be. “consecutive”
