Dallas Cowboys First Half Nightmare vs the New Orleans Saints

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a strong week one performance against the Cleveland Browns.

The dominance shown by the defense against the Browns seems to have been left in Cleveland.

The New Orleans Saints dominated the Cowboys in the first two quarters.

The offense seemed to be sputtering against a very good Saints defense, while the defense had no answers for the Saints passing game at this point in the game.

Can the Dallas Cowboys step up their game in the second half? Only time will tell, but the Saints look almost unstoppable.

Dallas Cowboys First Half Nightmare

The First Quarter

The game’s first possession belonged to the New Orleans Saints, and they took full advantage.

The Saints marched the ball down the field, and Derek Carr seemed to be on fire, hitting receivers over the middle and carving up the defense.

The first possession ended with the Saints scoring a five-yard rushing touchdown by Alvin Kamara.

The Cowboys’ offense took over, and Dak Prescott started the series well, hitting CeeDee Lamb for a short gain. The passing game continued to look good, moving the ball down the field.

The series ended with the passing game hitting its first speed bump, with several incomplete passes and a 52-yard Brandon Aubrey field goal.

The Saints took back over, and on the first play of their series, Derek Carr hit wide receiver Rashid Shaheed on a 70-yard bomb that resulted in another Saints touchdown.

The first quarter ended with Dak Prescott and the offense moving the ball down the field, but the running game seemed to stall the offense.

The series ended with another Brandon Aubrey field goal, this time from 38 yards out.

The Second Quarter

The Saints took over after the Brandon Aubrey kickoff for a touchback. Again, they looked unstoppable, moving the ball downfield at will.

The defensive tackling seemed non-existent as Alvin Kamara sealed the drive off with a short pass, which he took for 57 yards and a touchdown.

At about nine minutes in the second quarter, the Saints had a commanding lead of 21-6.

The Dallas Cowboys offense finally got the ball moving down the field. The series started with a KaVontae Turpin rush for two yards.

The next play was a rush by Rico Dowdle to the right for six yards. Dowdle rushed again off the right tackle for a gain of five yards.

The following play was a 65-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. The offense seemed to find its groove finally.

The Saints took over with about six minutes left in the half, and the Cowboys’ defense reverted to last year’s run-stopping ability.

Alvin Kamara ran all over the defense and ended the series with a 12-yard rushing touchdown. The Saints got the lead to 28-13.

The Cowboys offense took over at the 2:48 mark with a short completion to Ezekiel Elliott. The next play ended in a defensive holding, giving the Cowboys offense a first down.

The series ended with a receiver slipping and the Saints defense getting the interception.

The Saints came to play, and the offense of the New Orleans Saints kept the momentum going.

The Saints first pass of the series was for no gain, but on the next play, Derek Carr threw a dart to Chris Olave, who made an acrobatic catch for 19 yards.

The Saints would score again on a Derek Carr quarterback keeper for a one-yard touchdown.

The Saints extended the lead to 35-13.

The Cowboys took over with 39 seconds left in the first half.

Dak Prescott and the offense took the field at the 30-yard line after a touchback on the kickoff.

Dak Prescott completed a pass to Jalen Brooks for nine yards. Dak Prescott completed three more passes, moving the ball to the Saints 28-yard line and spiking the ball on the next play to give Brandon Aubrey a chance at a field goal.

With five seconds to go, Brandon Aubrey scored a 48-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 19. The half would end with a score of 35–19 Saints lead.

The Cowboys must make drastic defensive changes to pull out a win in this game.
