Von Miller signing with Dallas only helps them, does no harm

Denver Broncos edge rusher Von Miller displaying the explosive, long-limbed body type the new defensive coordinator prioritizes for speed and power off the edge.

I did not see the Dallas Cowboys making this move, but I was happily surprised on Sunday night when I got on Twitter and saw the updates that he had signed a deal with Dallas.

Von Miller to Dallas has been talked about since the start of the summer and credit to Jerry Jones, who has put his head down and gotten things done this offseason. Something that we fans are not used to.

Before we get into all of this, take a look at the photo below. This: Von Miller would have been the team leader in sacks a year ago with 9. He produced that with only 289 pass-rush snaps, which comes out to 32 sacks per sack.

That ranking has him above Aidan Hutchinson and Micah Parsons in the games he did play. This move does nothing but help them. It can’t harm them in any way possible.

Does No Harm

If you look around, everyone is saying the same thing. Adding Von Miller, who can clearly still play in a role that allows him to just be a pass rusher on first or third downs, does not hurt the Dallas Cowboys at all.

Again, he had 9 sacks a year ago. Take a look at the photo I added above, and the video of him below working out. He joins a Cowboys defensive line that is 100 times better than it was a year ago.

Now, let’s be clear, I am not saying this moves the needle a lot, or if any, at all, but this can do something but help them, it cannot hurt them in any way possible.

His deal is a 1-year, $5.5M deal, sources say, with a max value of $7.5M. They created $24 million in total salary cap flexibility with Quinnen Williams’ three-year, $105.9 million extension (which included four void years), freeing up $13 million in cap space for the 2026 season and $11 million in cap room for 2027.

“They were the first team to contact me, like a week before training camp,” Miller said. “It just seemed right to me. I live here in the offseason, my mom and dad are here, my kids are here. I’ve always had blue in my heart since I was a little boy, I always paid attention to the Dallas Cowboys. My earliest memory of football includes the Dallas Cowboys. I heard my daddy screaming in the back and I ran back there to see what was going on, and he was screaming because the Dallas Cowboys had scored a touchdown. That’s my earliest memory of football, and to be back home, it’s a dream within a dream.”

At the end of the day, I think this is a good move for the Dallas Cowboys. Again, this defense is clearly better than a year ago, and we have to give Jerry Jones credit for what he has done, so now it comes down to everyone can everyone perform the way they need to when it matters the most.

I can roll out the bed and get 8 sacks 😴 😈

This team can at least compete for the NFC title, and then the rest of the guys out west are still much better, but who knows what happens from now until the end of the year? Nobody thought the Seahawks would win their division, let alone the Super Bowl when everyone picked the 49ers last year and the Rams had the MVP of the league.

It takes a team to win it all in this league, and the Cowboys did about as much as they could to make sure they now have the right guys in the building.

Have to stay away from injuries and get it done on gameday.
