Final 8 games could set Cowboys up for solid draft spot

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to win all of these football games, no doubt, but at some point we have to be honest with ourselves, correct?

In the final eight games of the season, the Cowboys play five teams that are .500 or better, and with an NFC that is loaded at the top, it is just going to be almost impossible for this team to overcome that and make the playoffs.

Watching the Arizona Cardinals offense yesterday struggle to pick up a first down after what they did to the Cowboys defense the week before is a reminder that with this defense, the Cowboys just don’t have a chance.

Last 8 Games

The Dallas Cowboys start the second half of the season on Monday Night Football again against the Las Vegas Raiders. That is a game they should win just like we thought they should beat the Cardinals at home.

Then they play the Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, Vikings, Chargers and Commanders.

Philly, Kansas City and the Lions are all going to make the playoffs, and teams that will be looking to stay as high up in the standings as possible. The Vikings have looked good and the Chargers are looking better every week.

Dallas is 3-5-1, and the way it looks now, I think they win four more games and finish the season 7-9-1, miss the playoffs and are probably looking at the middle of the pack draft spot, but a lot of teams are going to finish with double-digit wins this year, and Dallas is losing to a lot of the middle of the pack teams, so that will allow them to stay ahead of them in draft position.

Dallas has two first round picks in 2026, a 4th, 5th and 6th. I will be rooting for the Packers to lose as many games as possible so that the pick they have from the Micah Parsons trade is not near the bottom.

Look, I am not telling you I won’t be rooting for Dallas to win every game, I will be, but if they don’t run the table, they won’t have any chance to make the playoffs in the NFC. It is that good this year.

I just think the level of the teams they play in the second half with this defense, even with the trades, won’t be good enough and will set them up for a good draft spot come April.

Like I said at the top, at some point we have to stop pretending like this team is all of a sudden going to look good on defense to help the offense win games.

Cowboys will slow down the run a bit with their new acquisitions, but it is the secondary that never was addressed at the trade deadline. I would like for the Cowboys to go for that LSU corner Mansoor as their own pick! He’s an immediate starter in 2026. The Packer pick should be a linebacker – Sonny Styles of Ohio State?

a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the 70’s if the Cowboys keep losing they could be in the top 3 in the N.F.L. draft and can get some great players

If we win 3 more games and atleast get to see our defense consistently get off the field on 3rd down. If we get to see Revel and Carson completely healthy for the last 5 or 6 games. We know what we have in Overshown if he stays healthy he will due a contract soon. No matter how you look at it contracts age or health L.B. has too many questions to ignore. I.M.O. same with Edge due to contracts, health or performance. We get our front 7 some better starters and rotation that will help our secondary tremendously. If Revel and Carson hold down the outside and Bland plays nickle that helps tremendously with a decision on Diggs and his contract. Safety is same as D.E., L.B. contracts, health, performance we could use a starter and better depth there as well. We could use a starting L.T. too. If we could trade back 5 or 6 picks to a team desperate for a Q.B. and pick up a 2nd and 3rd or 4th would be perfect. Then possibly trade back the G.B. pick 4 or 5 spots for a 3rd and 4th or 5th. We would still have 2 1st round picks and gain 4 more. This could be our best year to trade back a few spots and really help the defense and offense.
