For the third season in a row, the Dallas Cowboys are at a standstill about what they are going to do at a very important position.
As this team heads in the 2025 season, they have no head coach or offensive coordinator as of now. Not only that, they might be hoping to pull lightning out of a bottle again in terms of who is going to be the lead back for this football team.

After letting Ezekiel Elliott go before the 2023 season started, Tony Pollard was given all the duties and played well, and last season before 2024 kicked off, Pollard signed with the Titans, leaving the Cowboys backfield in a gross situation.
Rico Dowdle came out of nowhere and once they figured out it would be a good idea to use him, he ran for more yards than Pollard did as the lead back.
Honestly, this team might be in a worse spot than they were last season.
https://twitter.com/clarencehilljr/status/1873470580235829673Dowdle now heads to unrestricted free agency, yet again, and he will be looking for much more than another one-year deal. Why? Because he earned it this season, and we all know how Jerry Jones is.
If Dowdle does not re-sign, the only guys they have on the roster under contract are Deuce Vaughn, Hunter Luepke and Malik Davis. Yikes!
NFL Draft
Yes, the NFL draft is loaded with guys that this team could draft, but so was last year, and the front office did not get anyone!
Kellen Moore and Brian Schottenheimer are the betting favorites to land the head coaching job for the Dallas Cowboys, and if that happens, they both love to run the football. Maybe sometimes a little too much.
Both of them might be willing to use a Day 1 or Day 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on a coveted prospect.
https://twitter.com/Marcus_Mosher/status/1882050814539407738If Kellen Moore gets the nod to become head coach, my guess is that he will do everything possible to get Ashton Jeanty from Boise State with his ties to the college.
I don’t think he is worth the pick at No. 12, regardless of him being a Heisman candidate. I see plenty of good to great backs that you can get in the later rounds.
Other guys like Cam Skattebo, Dylan Sampson, Kaleb Johnson, TreVeyon Henderson and Devin Neal will all be around in the later rounds for this team to get.
They can use the first round pick on a much more glaring need like adding another great wide receiver next to CeeDee Lamb, or another offensive lineman like Tyler Booker, the guard from Alabama.
Skattebo, and Henderson are the two guys I would look at in the later rounds if I could. I would not take the Boise State product with the 12th overall pick. Plenty of talent in the later rounds at RB.
Hard Telling
It is hard telling what this front office is going to do, but if they land either one of the two betting favorites as the head coach, I will bet they draft a running back in the first two rounds.
This 2025 season may go lopsided even faster than the 2024 season did. They have over 20 unrestricted free agents, and Jerry Jones is not going to spend money to bring them back.
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1862297903450235064He will try and be as cheap as possible and replace most of them with 5-6 picks in April.
This is going to be a long couple of months, and I am expecting the worst, and that also means not having a big part of the offense. Once Rico got involved, things got easier in the play calling, but as of this moment, they don’t have a trusted running back on the roster.
