I would much rather be talking about the Dallas Cowboys getting ready for a playoff game right about now, but we all know why that did not happen.
Still, a lot of good football will be played this weekend, and throughout the next few weeks, so that got me thinking. How many former Dallas Cowboys players will we see?
As I started going over them all, I thought to myself, this could make for a very interesting post. Who are the top former Dallas players that we will see over the next few weeks in the playoffs?
This is not in order. These are just the players that I think have been the best this season, who are former Cowboys players we will see for at least one game.
Let me be also clear that Micah Parsons will not be in this list because he as you should know by now as a torn ACL and is out for the playoffs and much longer, or he would be on the list.
Rico Dowdle
Ever since the Panthers/Cowboys game, Rico Dowdle took over the starting running back spot in Caronlia and has not really given it back.
He was one of the hottest running backs in football for about a month, he was even second in rushing yards for a few weeks, but then started to cool off.
The Panthers are hosting a home playoff game against the Rams, a game that they will lose, but we should still see a nice chunk of Dowdle early if they can establish the running game.
He finished the year with 236 carries, for 1,076 yards and six touchdowns. Yet another running back that the Dallas Cowboys let go, only for them to have a solid year just like Tony Pollard before him.
Nahshon Wright
Tell you what, Nahshon Wright had a breakout season this year, Al Harris and the rest of the Bears defensive guys over there really had him balling out.
After spending a year with the Vikings, Wright found himself with the Chicago Bears, and this season has broken out.
He started 16 games this season for them, and had five interceptions, one that was a house call for over 70 yards.
Wright is going to earn himself some money this offseason, and yet another very solid player with the correct coaching that the Dallas Cowboys could have built into a real good player.
Tell me if you haven’t heard that before.
DeMarcus Lawrence
DeMarcus Lawrence is having one heck of a year with the no. 1 overall seed Seattle Seahawks.
The former second round pick by Dallas in 2014, signed a three-year, $42 million dollar deal with Seattle in March 2025, and has had a really good year.
He has started 16 games and produced six sacks for the best defense in football. DLaw also forced three fumbles and scored two defensive touchdowns. Crazy.
Once led by Lawrence and Micah Parsons not too long ago, it seems like forever ago now with how bad the Dallas defense has become. Yet another player who leaves Dallas and has his best season since 2018.
I think Dlaw will be the only player to make any type of run these playoffs. The Bears might win against the Packers, but they will not beat Philly or the 49ers, whomever they play next.
One other guy to keep an eye on is Brandin Cooks who should come up huge for the Buffalo Bills, look for him to have some type of impact.
It just stinks that we will not be able to watch the Cowboys in the playoffs, but rather just watch these former players hopefully ball out.
