Former Cowboys WR has plenty to say about current star

If you had told me at the beginning of the offseason that a former Cowboys wide receiver would take to Twitter/X to criticize Dallas’ current top wide receiver, I’d probably laugh you out of the room.

However, that’s exactly what has happened and Cowboys Nation is all too eager to share the latest drama in this episode of As the Star Turns.

Cole Beasley, the culprit in the slandering of current WR CeeDee Lamb, is most recently remembered for his controversial and outspoken stance on Covid-19 vaccinations.

Beasley retired after (or maybe during) the 2022 season. He started his fourth season with the Buffalo Bills before spending a couple of games with Tampa Bay on Tom Brady’s farewell season.

Beasley’s Path

The shifty slot wide receiver made a name for himself when he arrived in Dallas as an undrafted free agent from Southern Methodist University (SMU).

Primarily a punt returner early in his career, he was stuck behind a talented group of wide receivers like Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and Patrick Crayton, not to mention TE Jason Witten.

However, Beasley’s route-running and ability to get open for QB Tony Romo on critical 3rd downs quickly raised his value to the offense, leading to the best season of his career in 2016. He racked up 75 receptions for 833 yards and five touchdowns from the arm of rookie Dak Prescott.

A release after the 2018 season landed him in Buffalo where he would serve as a safety blanket for a young Josh Allen before retiring from the league for good after the 2022 season.

Beasley is most recognized now for his ummm… talent in rapping. Maybe he should have just been a slot wide receiver for a little while longer.

The Scoop

Now to the drama. Beasley quote tweeted one of CeeDee Lamb’s patented workout videos. The workout was a variety of exercises designed to improve explosiveness and change of direction.

They were creative workouts that displayed the raw talent and athleticism that Lamb already possesses. A professional camera crew made them look that much better. While most were in awe at Lamb’s ability, Beasley went in a different direction.

Beasley tweeted “Man just do some heavy squats and power cleans.” It seems like harmless advice from a retired wide receiver to a young player on a team where he spent seven seasons of his career and it probably is.

But much like we have come to expect from social media in this day and age, it was blown way out of proportion. Some Twitter/X users commented on Beasley’s post suggesting that he was trying to compare his talents to CeeDee’s.

If that wasn’t the case in the original tweet then he left no doubt on his next post. Beasley again took to his Twitter/X feed to say “Give me 180 targets off the couch and I eclipse 1000. Stop looking at stats and check the tape. As far as getting open goes…I’m confident I did that with the best of them.”

Twitter/X user Cassidy Ace appeared to have struck a nerve somewhere deep inside of Beasley’s ego to get him to respond in such a way. At this point, with several hundred retweets, the internet did the rest.

Soon after there would be a response from CeeDee himself, no longer able to ignore Beasley’s comments after all of Cowboys Nation were tagging him to respond.

Lamb said “I don’t need 180 targets to touch a band. Pull up tape, I’d match you route for route on getting open. Just chill.” It’s not untrue. Lamb is currently one of the best wide receivers in the world. Do you really think he can’t match another wide receiver who never touched 1000 yards?

Beasley never touched the stratosphere of where Lamb has already ascended in just four seasons. It is funny to see the exchanges on social media powered by drama-hungry fans.

By next week, these exchanges will be long-forgotten and Cowboys Nation will find something else on social media to create a rift in the fanbase.
