We are just about two weeks through the Dallas Cowboys training camp and a lot of good has come from it. A few questions have been cleared up, but we have seen some movement in terms of position battles, and other things.
One thing is for sure, the heat turned up when the pads came on this week. The defense stole the show in the first practice on Monday. The offense bounced back on Tuesday. It was a good sign to see.
With that said, a few things have stood out thus far and take a look below in case you missed some of the movement that has taken place.
Tyler Guyton
It has become clear that Tyler Guyton has locked up the starting left tackle spot after battling this offseason with Nate Thomas. Or did he?
Tyler Guyton has still not officially won the job.
Earlier in the week there were reports that Schotty had declared Guyton the winner already, but Schotty told San Antonio that what his point truly meant to be was that Nate Thomas had to play better for it to be a real competition. Schotty reiterated that on Thursday in his press conference before practice.
Either way, I’m not sure if I trust either Guyton or Thomas as the starting left tackle. Guyton has raw talent, but he has so many other issues with his game, like all the times he holds and derails plays, etc.
As of now, Guyton is clearly in the lead for that role, and the Cowboys are close to having the best offensive line in the game if Guyton can get things figured out and play like the other Tyler’s on this team.
Jaydon Blue Looks Good
I tell you what, when the pads got put on, Jaydon Blue looked really good. The second year running back is a great back when you can get him in space and that is where he thrives.
Blue has looked like a different player this summer, and he knows it. “I’m having a great camp so far,” he said.
He looked like the explosive running back he was at Texas, showcasing his speed and making plays in the open field. Running with the first-team offense, he caught a screen, got to the second level and nobody touched him.
If Blue can become even a shell of what he was while at Texas and be the change of pace back for Dallas behind Javonte Williams, maybe that is the only other area outside the offensive line that the offense can be even better!
I now think he might win the backup job, but we have a long way to go.
Are The Cornerbacks Actually Decent?
If you tuned into anything during the first padded practice, the defense was actually good? I can’t believe I am saying that, and yes, I understand it is training camp, but they had the pads on.
The cornerback room is an issue I refuse to buy into this year until we see it during the regular season and I think it could still be the biggest issue for them, but they have been decent.

Cobie Durant, in my opinion, has been the best corner out of everyone on the roster. I am not counting Caleb Downs because this dude is a Swiss army knife and will be playing everywhere!
Even guys like Shavon Revel and DaRon Bland have made enough plays to at least allow me to keep a level head, but these three things are some of the biggest questions I had coming into camp and just after two weeks are allowing me to see them more clearly.
When preseason starts, some of these guys should get plenty of reps since they are still either battling for a starting job or the backup spot, so maybe that will make them crystal clear when needed.
