The Las Vegas Raiders were in on the bidding for wide receiver Stefon Diggs before he decided to sign with the Washington Commanders. This is the type of thing I read and start going down a rabbit hole of possibilities.
Las Vegas clearly wants another receiver and I cannot blame them after seeing their depth chart.
The top three receivers for the Raiders are Tre Tucker, Jalen Nailor, and Jack Bech. Behind those guys are Dont’e Thornton Jr., Malik Benson, Dareke Young. Not exactly an inspiring group of players.
Here is where I think Dallas comes into the picture. For once, the Cowboys have some depth at wide receiver and, in case anyone forgot, we could use a big-time pass rusher. I think you may know where I’m going with this and if not, hang on for the ride.
Yes, I’m going to talk about Maxx Crosby. Talk about beating a dead horse, but anyway.
Dallas Still Has Interest in Maxx Crosby
Dallas, as we all know, showed interest in Crosby earlier in the offseason before the Raiders sent him to Baltimore just to get him back with a return to sender label on his forehead. The Ravens were sending two first-round picks to the Raiders in the deal.
Famously, Baltimore backed out over concerns about Crosby’s knee. Now Crosby is still in Vegas, Dallas still needs help on the edge, and the Raiders just so happen to be looking for a wide receiver.
I’d call again, knowing CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are not part of the conversation.
The player I would dangle is the young upside guy, Ryan Flournoy. He came alive last season and is having a great training camp so far.
Last season, Flournoy caught 40 passes for 475 yards and four touchdowns. His hard work has paid off as he is being seen as a big part of this offense this coming season. I want everyone to know I like Flournoy, but I wouldn’t miss a chance at Crosby over him.
What Would A Trade Package Look Like?
Dallas finally has enough players at receiver that moving a guy, the third receiver, who won’t wreck the whole offense if moved would be OK. That’s not something this team could say for a while.
My first offer would be a low ball offer.
Las Vegas gets Ryan Flournoy and a 2027 first-round pick. Then I think Vegas would ask for more, so I would attach a 2028 third-rounder to it.
We all know the Raiders will ask for me, but that is where I would be cautious. If they want the third-rounder bumped to a second in 2028, I think I would make that deal.
Flournoy, a first-rounder, and a second-rounder for Maxx Crosby is expensive, but worth it with the firepower this offense has at its disposal.
Would moving Flournoy hurt? Yes, he has turned into a good young receiver and the thing is, good young receivers want to get paid, so moving on from him early for a superstar would be a win.
Dallas would still have Lamb and Pickens.
There is also several other young receivers, I believe who could pick up where Flournoy left off if given the chance. Guys like Mingo, who has shown up in this camp, rookies Anthony Smith and Jordan Hudson, and Traeshon Holden is still hanging around.
I can live with Dallas figuring out the third wide receiver spot.
Don’t get this twisted. There is no report that Dallas is working on this deal. I’m just looking at what both teams need.
The Raiders went looking for a receiver because their depth is terrible in that area and the Cowboys need a proven pass rusher besides Rashan Gary.
Dallas already wanted Crosby once, and Jerry Jones has said he’s willing to make some deals. That’s enough for me.
Call Vegas, start with Flournoy and a first.
If they ask for more, roll the dice.
