The NFC East belonged to the Philadelphia Eagles for one week as the only winner from the season openers. But now after their loss and wins by Dallas and Washington there’s a three-way tie at the top of the division.
The Football Team got its first win of 2021 and the first division win by any team when they cut down the Giants on Thursday Night Football. QB Taylor Heinicke proved that last year’s playoff performance against Tampa was no fluke and that Washington may be okay in his hands while Ryan Fitzpatrick recovers form injury.
New York’s loss made them the only 0-2 team in the NFC East. It was a narrow one, losing 30-29 on the road in a rivalry game, and perhaps a sign of better things ahead. But for now the Giants are the sole inhabitants of the division basement.
Philadelphia’s Week 1 thumping of the Falcons on the road may have just been about how bad Atlanta is this year. Return home to meet the 49ers, the Eagles lost 17-11 and Jalen Hurts couldn’t ever get the passing game going.
The Eagles will now fly southwest to Dallas for a Week 3 matchup against a much happier Cowboys team. Dallas got its first win of 2021 yesterday with a last-second field goal to top the Los Angeles Chargers.
Next Monday’s matchup between Dallas and Philly could tell us a lot about who these teams are this season. Meanwhile, Washington has a tough one as they go on the road to face the Buffalo Bills. And New York has a great chance to post a victory with a home game against the Falcons.
