The day before the NFL draft, Stephen Jones, during a press conference, dropped a bombshell on all the fans, and might end up costing the Dallas Cowboys wins this season.
Jones said Wednesday that they have no plans to work out a long-term deal with George Pickens, and they have told him that they plan to have him play this season on the franchise tag.
The issue is, Pickens has not yet signed it, and it is unclear if he will even show up for the offseason programs.
You can’t tell me that, regardless of how much the tag pays, the team is not signing him long-term. I can promise it has to do with one thing, and that is the agent of Pickens.
Jerry can’t stand him, and wants to do everything his way, and David Mulugheta, who Jerry tried to get Pickens to ditch a month ago and not use him when talking about the deal.
Same agent Micah Parsons has and guess what? He said nope, and traded him.
“There won’t be negotiations on a long term deal.” The tag is $27.3M and it’s unclear when Pickens will even show up.
Disaster Once Again
Every single season this front office with Jerry and Stephen ruins ANYTHING good going for them, and here we are. The team with the worst defense in football a year ago will probably say screw drafting defense. Let’s get a new shiny offensive toy with the 12th overall pick.
If they do that, nobody, not a single person, can tell me that the Jones family cares about winning football games.
The tag for 20226 is $27.298 million, fully guaranteed for the 2026 season, and again, Pickens has not signed the tender and probably won’t for who knows how long. He can’t be fined for missing team activities since he is not under a full contract.
Look, if he doesn’t sign this season, he won’t play football, and I think that is the lowest possible chance, but I think real tension will be had now between Pickens and the Jones family.
If he does play, he probably won’t show up until September, and I am sorry, this offense needs Pickens out there. They have to use the draft to make the defense better because they did not do it nearly enough this offseason with free agents.
So back to the other part of this, now the team with the worst defense in football could very well be pressured into taking a WR because they just can’t do what a front office should do and get a deal done with a top 5-7 wide receiver and then worry about nothing but defense.
Another All-Pro season would put him in line to be the highest-paid WR in the NFL in 2027 at age 26.
If they do not get more picks or take a defender in the first round today, the season is done. You saw how bad the defense was a year ago, just like I did, they have to get better there, and you can get a day-one starter with the 12th and 20th overall pick!
As you can tell, I am a little annoyed by all of this, but it is for good reason. Heck, even before they said that about George Pickens while the Jones were doing their press conference, Bill Clinton walked in the room legit right in the middle.
I am not joking either. Please take a look at the video below, like why can this front office act normally for one ENTIRE season for once?
I just want to see this team win football games, and the Jones family can’t do things without stuff like this, and if that does not bother you, then I have nothing to say.
To their credit until today, they had been decent this offseason, but the games have once again begun for this team, and it really is upsetting.
