The Cowboys will face the 49ers tonight in the fifth week of the NFL season. Dallas' history on this week in the schedule is not great.

Overall, Dallas is 33-25-2 in Week 5 contests. They've had two bye weeks fall on Week 5 (2011 and 2012) and had one game scratched due to the 1982 strike.

But the Cowboys are just 10-16-1 on the road in Week 5.

They are also just 2-4-1 against NFC West teams when playing them in the fifth week.

The good news is that Dallas has never played the 49ers in the fifth game. Nor have they faced the Seahawks in Week 5.

They are 1-1 against the Rams and a dismal 1-3-1 against the Cardinals.

Dallas was 0-3-1 when the franchise was in St. Louis. The lone win game came at home in 2003 after the team had moved to Arizona.

The Cowboys are an impressive 16-8-1 against their rivals when meeting in the fifth week.

A pity the NFL couldn't schedule the Eagles for this week instead of the 49ers.

Dallas is 6-3 against Philadelphia and 4-2 against the Commanders. The team is 6-3-1 against the Giants.

Dallas is 3-0 against the Bengals and 2-0 against the Bears in Week 5 meetings.

They are a dismal 1-4 against the Packers in Week 5.

Menage a Trois

Three seems to be the magic number when it comes to Week 5 contests for the Cowboys.

They come into tonight's game against the 49ers having won their last three Week 5 games. The last loss in Week 5 was courtesy of the Packers in 2019.

Dallas has had four other three-game winning streaks involving Week 5, but have never won four or more in a row.

They've had two three-game losing streaks but never lost four or more in a row either.

All Tied Up

Over 63-plus seasons, Dallas is 553-409-6 all time. Of those six ties, two have come in Week 5 contests.

In 1964, Dallas battled the Giants to a 13-13 at the Cotton Bowl despite enjoying a 463-128 advantage in total offense.

Turning the ball over six times in a game usually ends with a loss. They were lucky to escape with the tie.

Two years and five days later, Dallas ended up in a 10-10 tie against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Again, the Cowboys outgained their opponent – 326-175 – but four turnovers doomed the offense.

Against The 49ers

Including the playoffs, the Cowboys are 19-19-1 against San Francisco. But the 49ers enjoy a 15-14-1 advantage in regular season games.

Dallas is 5-4 in the playoffs, despite having lost the last two postseason matchups with the 49ers.

Most of the games have been played in San Francisco with the teams evenly splitting the 20 meetings.

The teams are 3-3 in playoff games and 7-7 in regular season battles against one another. Dallas has won the last four regular season games played in San Francisco.
