Report: Colts Have Made Safety Malik Hooker “Available” For Trade

According to The Athletic's Michael Lombardi, the are potentially opening to trading during draft week.

The former pick in 2017 was a top-tier draft prospect out of Ohio State, but has been a bit disappointing by most standards during his early NFL career, largely due to .

Still, Hooker is an immensely talented player with excellent athleticism and ball-hawking skills. He can play that centerfield position for a , showcasing the type of range which got him drafted in the first round.

The Colts are yet to pick up his fifth year option, suggesting that they may be wary of extending him further than his rookie deal. He's absolutely worth a look for the Cowboys, who have a need at safety and could use an influx of young, cheap talent on the back-end as a whole.

Senior writer Stephen Holder, who covers the Colts for The Athletic, tempered expectations a bit around these rumors, however. Holder is reporting that teams have called the Colts about Malik Hooker, and while they are listening, they are not actively seeking a deal.

Regardless – the fact this piece of information has gotten out to the public means something, and the Cowboys should put in a call to Indianapolis to see what they are looking for in return for Malik Hooker.

I’d rather draft Xavier Mckinney than to trade draft capital or other players or both away for a player with a year or two left on their contract!!

I like the thinking here brady. With dix already in adding an additional solid piece with hands in the secondary would be greatly beneficial. The issue I would have is you would trade a 3 for him probably 20/ 3, 21/ 4 for him and still need to draft security. Injuries are so unpredictable. I remember hating when they drafted Lee simply because of injuries. I have cussed him multiple times throughout the years due to injuries but when he plays he brings greatness to the field. Hooker has that ability to be a difference maker but as cowboy fan says the capital might be to rich to trade for him because of being unpredictable. What can it hurt to make a phone call. Good thing about a 2 year contract sometimes is the fact that it is 2 years.

Reports today that Colts have declined Hooker’s option. Cowboys fan based in Indianapolis believes that — even with Hooker’s history of injuries — Boys should definitely scoop him up before someone else does.
