The Former Cowboys who might lead the Eagles against Dallas

On Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles announced that QB Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely with a superficial blood clot in his calf; in response, Philly made a roster move that could set up a pair of former Cowboys facing off against their old team.

While Dallas plays Green Bay on Sunday Night Football tomorrow, and the Eagles host the Panthers earlier in the day, the two teams will face off against each other in Week 7.

Let’s talk about those two former Cowboys and why they may have a shot at some revenge when that Monday Night Football matchup rolls around in 11 days.

Joe Milton & Jaydon Blue Reunite in Philadelphia

(Milton signed off Dallas’s practice squad; Blue could be promoted from Eagles’ PS due to injury.)

Let’s start at quarterback: the Eagles plucked now-former Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton from the team’s practice squad yesterday, signing him to their 53-man roster due to the Hurts injury.

He isn’t expected to surpass incumbent backups Tanner McKee and Cole Payton this week, but by the time Dallas rolls around, it’s certainly possible.

Milton, 26, had been with the Cowboys since 2025, when the team sent a 4th-round pick to the New England Patriots to make him the potential heir apparent to Dak Prescott. His tenure, of course, didn’t quite follow that track, as Dallas released him and brought him back to the practice squad this summer.

Jaydon Blue, on the other hand, could soon get reps at running back for the Eagles. He was Dallas’s most notable initial cut on the 53-man roster, as they released him toward the end of the 2026 preseason.

He just didn’t pan out in his rookie year, and this summer was a pretty rocky road as well; that didn’t stop Philly from swooping in and signing him to their practice squad on August 31st.

The former Longhorns star hasn’t gotten snaps yet in the Eagles’ offense, but the team has now had Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley go down with injuries — they are literally down to their RB4/5/6 in Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele, and Blue.

If they don’t get healthy in time for Monday Night Football in Week 7, you could realistically see Milton handing off to Blue against the Cowboys. Given their backstories with Dallas, that would be a hysterical development.

There’s a world (albeit, a very small percentage one) where Joe Milton is handing the ball off to Jaydon Blue against the Cowboys next Monday.

Time will tell if we’ll get this matchup, or if it’ll just be Hurts-Barkley back there against Dallas, but either way, this is something to watch until then.
