As a fan of America’s Team that was not alive to see their 1990s dominance, the 2014 Cowboys are easily one of my all-time favorite teams in the history of my fandom.
For a good while there, really up until the referees in Green Bay said that a catch we all watched was actually not a catch, they felt like a team of destiny. So surprising, so scrappy, electric on offense and tough when you needed them most on defense.
Yes, it came crashing down against the Packers in that highway robbery, but it’s still a fun team to reminisce on — especially since we haven’t had much to top their run since.
Here, we’re going to go back in the time machine for a little nostalgia and do a bit of “where are they now,” specifically focused on the now-coaches from the 2014 Cowboys roster. You may know a couple are in the coaching world now, but I’ve got a name you might not be aware of.
1. DeMarco Murray: 2014 Star Now Leads Kansas City Chiefs RB Room
I would be foolish not to start off with the guy who has actually risen to some pretty serious ranks in his coaching journey: former Cowboys star DeMarco Murray is the new running backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Murray started his coaching career in 2019 with the Arizona Wildcats, before beginning a five-year stint at his alma mater, Oklahoma.
Now, he’s made it to the big show, and if his trajectory says anything, he’s likely to keep climbing the ladder.
2. Jason Witten Going From Cowboys Legend To Sooners TE Coach
I think most Cowboys fans know that franchise legend Jason Witten has taken up coaching; that’s likely because Jerry Jones seemed to make him a candidate for Dallas’s HC opening, despite only HS football on Witten’s resume.
Alas, they mutually agreed it wasn’t the right time, and now Witten has made the jump to college.
He’s the new tight ends coach at Oklahoma, perhaps following the DeMarco Murray blueprint, and something tells me this is only the beginning of the whispers that he may join the Cowboys staff.
3. LB Kyle Wilber Now Under Former Cowboy Kellen Moore As Assistant Coach
This may not have been the Saints coach you were expecting, but NOLA’s Head Coach Kellen Moore joined Dallas in 2015, so he doesn’t make the cut here.
Instead, former Cowboys’ linebacker Kyle Wilber does!
This guy was a small, perhaps forgotten part of that scrappy Dallas defense, but he was an important piece. He was a Cowboy for six seasons, and he’s now an assistant ST coach under Moore.
