Why this bye week is critical for the Cowboys

The Cowboys’ bye week is here, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the team. The Cowboys are 6-2 and will be playing the Green Bay Packers next week. After a good win over the Chicago Bears, it’s finally time for the team to rest up.

But why is this week so important? Well, one major reason is injuries. Sometimes people forget that Quarterback Dak Prescott is still coming off of a thumb injury. Yes, he has played in 2 games since then, but you can never get too much rest when you are hurt. Who knows, his thumb may still not be fully healed but the Cowboy staff just needs to put him on the field.

No matter what though, Dak needs this time to practice some more with the team after missing five weeks with his team. On another note, Running Back Ezekiel Elliott sat out the last game due to a minor leg injury. After this bye week, Elliott should be fully ready to start playing again.

Injuries are not the only thing the Cowboys need to work on over the week off. The coaches need to make some important decisions within this time. One of those is, who will be the new starting running back? At the moment, Ezekiel Elliott is, but after last week’s performance by Tony Pollard, will Tony Pollard replace Ezekiel Elliott as starting running back?

Another factor the Cowboys can work on (or more importantly Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore can work on) is play calling. Last week’s win against the Bears was amazing. a total of 49 points were scored and the offense looked great in the win. However, over the other 7 games, the Cowboys’ offense has struggled. Kellen needs to look more into what worked against the Bears and keep repeating the success.

One more subject that can be corrected is “organization” with the team. What does that mean? The Cowboys coaches need to get with each of their players and give them mid-season reports on what they should work on. Also getting more practice on field recognition from the players would be a good addon as well.

The team has played great thus far, but I have noticed that more teamwork and field awareness can be added to the players overall. This goes for every player, more organized by the field staff needs to be addressed for better game performances.

While injuries, play calling, decisions, and organization on the team can be added, one major assignment to do is rest. Cowboy players must calm down and focus on the upcoming schedule and to do so is to relax and study. Plus more injuries can be prevented if the team were to take a few days off over this week.
