For all the disagreement over how next week’s NFL Draft will go, the consensus strongest position group is at wide receiver. We could see as many as five or six wide receivers taken in the first round this year, with potential studs such as Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb leading the bunch.
I have 18 WRs in my top 100.

NFL Network’s draft expert Daniel Jeremiah said that he has 18 wide receivers in his top 100 players, and if all were to be taken in those first 100 picks it would be a historic draft. Of course, the odds are only 11-13 at most will go during the first two-three rounds, meaning there should be incredible value at the receiver position on the end of day two and beyond.
Of course that leads to the question – will the Cowboys dip into this potentially historic wide receiver class?
Dallas did pay top price for their number one wide out this offseason, extending Amari Cooper for five years. Michael Gallup is developing into a strong number two option as well, coming off of a 1,000 yard sophomore season.
But that doesn’t mean the Cowboys can’t improve on what already may be a strength on their roster. Even in the first round.
If a Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, or someone of that first round caliber is available 17th overall, the Cowboys should 100% consider pulling the trigger. Yes they have real holes on the defensive side of the ball, including at cornerback and safety, but adding more firepower to an offense that was already among the league’s best in a multitude of categories would only make their 2020 roster scarier.
All signs point towards Dallas prioritizing the defensive side of the ball 17th overall, however. In fact, there doesn’t seem to be any smoke around the receiver position at all.
Insider Mike Fisher took to Twitter to rank who he sees at the top 4 possibilities for Dallas in round one: and it was all defense. And he’s not alone. This is a common theme amongst those in the Cowboys-know, meaning everyone should be paying attention.
.@BobbyBeltTX for fun, I’ll try a #Cowboys No. 17 order:
1 CB Henderson
2 EDGE chaisson
3 CB Terrell
4 LB murray https://t.co/b3lePbHN2u— fishsports ✭ (@fishsports) April 17, 2020
Personally, I’d still be happy with three of those four selections. But prioritizing a linebacker over a game changing wide out would be poor roster building in my book.
If any of the big 3 Lamb, Juedy, or Ruggs are there at 17, then is 40 burger offense. Rd 2 could see Hamler, Raegor, Aiyuk, Higgins, Mims. 1 or 2 could drop to 51.
The Cowboys the team that I have followed since Skippy was a pup. Will probably make one of the hardest decisions that they have in many years on white outs and quarterbacks I’m looking forward to them signing Dak first Then ensuring their wide out positions.
WR class is good and deep. We have more important needs. Just did a mock on TDN. Interestingly, Herbert was there in 1st. So I played it out. Filled needs and got a plan B starting QB! I’m loving it.
1 Herbert QB
2 Blacklock DT
3 D. Taylor DE
4 R. Robinson CB
5 T. Johnson WR
6 JR Reed S
7 D Williams C
I really like this draft, too bad Jerry won’t pick a QB in the 1st. because he has Dak.
When will Cowboys rebuild the Offensive Line?? Will they draft a Center and Right Tackle??
When will the Cowboys rebuild their Offensive Line?? Select a Center and Right Tackle!
The Boys should take Henderson, Kinlaw, Chaisson, Lamb, Jeudy, or Ruggs if they fall to 17. If not trade down for extra picks in the top 3 rounds. They have a few needs (CB, S, C, DL, WR) and 3 picks in the top 3 rounds. Get an extra pick or 2 and potentially fill them all in the first 2 days.
OL, if we can’t protect Dak then it messes up our offense.
I like chase claypool for WR
