The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams will be starting their 2020 seasons against each other this Sunday night. Thankfully, the Cowboys will not be without three of their starting players who’ve been dealing with injuries in training camp. WR Amari Cooper, CB Chidobe Awuzie, and S Xavier Woods were all confirmed as being ready to play against the Rams.
The confirmation came today from Head Coach Mike McCarthy in one of his routine press conferences.
Dallas will already be without OT La’el Collins and LB Sean Lee this week and the next two after as they started the season on injured reserve. Per the COVID-19 rule changes this year, they will be eligible to return in Week 4.
Obviously, adding their top receiver, corner, and safety to that list would’ve been a huge blow for Dallas. But McCarthy’s announcement today bring a major sigh of relief to Cowboys Nation.
Sure, the chance to see CeeDee Lamb in a starting role would have been interesting. But Cooper is a proven number-one and it will be just as nice to see all of top-three receivers out there giving the Rams’ secondary fits.
With a lot of turnover already in the secondary, being without Awuzie and Woods could have been a disaster. But their presence will be stabilizing and take pressure off less experienced player like rookie Trevon Diggs and new starting safety Darian Thompson.
