Cowboys looking to regain early Week 8 dominance

The Dallas Cowboys are 37-18 all-time in Week 8 contests with seven byes and one game lost to a strike year.

But they are just 10-10 in Week 8 games played during this this century.

Dallas is 25-9 at home when playing Week 8 games at home. They’ll look to use that dominance at home when the face the Rams tomorrow.

By The Numbers

In the franchise’s first 28 seasons the Cowboys were an impressive 23-4 in Week 8 games with a missed game in the strike year of 1982.

Since then they are 14-14 with seven bye weeks. Dallas has won their last two Week 8 games, and four of the last five Week 8 contests.

Dallas has won its last two Week 8 games played at home.

The Cowboys are also 2-0 in Week 8 games that follow a Week 7 bye. Sunday’s game against the Rams follows a bye last week.

The Cowboys are 7-4 against AFC teams in Week 8 games and 22-6 against non-East division NFC teams.

Early Dominance

Dallas lost their first-ever Week 8 game at Green Bay in 1960. They wouldn’t lost another Week 8 game until 1970.

The would win four in a row between 1971-1974 before winning six straight between 1976-1981.

The Cowboys have had three Week 8 losing streaks over the years.

They lost three in a row from 1988-1990 and again from 2001-2003. They lost six straight between 2010-2015.

Other than those three streaks, Dallas has never lost consecutive Week 8 games.

One other streak of note: Dallas hosted nine consecutive Week 8 games between 1978 and 1987. The Cowboys went 8-1 during that run.

Only the 1982 strike broke that streak.

Crazy Eights

Dallas is 8-8 overall in Week 8 games against NFC East opponents. They are 4-1 against Washington, 2-3 against the Giants and 2-4 against the Eagles.

The Cowboys have eight wins in nine Week 8 meetings against the Cardinals.

See You In Los Angeles

The Cowboys have played the Raiders twice in Week 8. But both contests were played when the Raiders called Los Angeles home.

Dallas lost to the Raiders, 40-38, at home in Week 8 in 1983.

They avenged the loss nine years later at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with a 28-13 win.

Against The Other L.A. Team

The Cowboys have never faced the Rams in a Week 8 contest.

Dallas in 19-18 overall against Los Angeles. Dallas is 15-13 in regular season games against the Rams, but 4-5 in playoff games.

The Cowboys are 10-9 at home against Los Angeles and have won four of the last five games played in Texas.

Dallas holds a 174-77 scoring advantage over the Rams in those five games.

The Cowboys won the last meeting at AT&T Stadium, 44-21, in 2019.
