The 2020 Dallas Cowboys, much like the 2019 version, are putting up excellent offensive numbers. Dak Prescott currently leads the NFL with 1,690 passing yards and Amari Cooper is second in the league with 401 receiving yards. However, there’s another weapon on the Cowboys offense that’s having an incredible start also, and that’s rookie Wide Receiver, CeeDee Lamb.
When the Cowboys visited the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, Lamb wasted no time making an impact. On the Cowboys second possession of the game, Lamb caught his first NFL pass that went for 33 yards which set up the team’s first touchdown of the game. He would finish with five receptions for 59 yards on six targets.
Quite the start wouldn’t you say? Well, Lamb himself thought there was a lot more he could’ve done in his NFL debut.
“Honestly, I’m not really too pleased with myself or my performance,” Lamb said. I feel like there’s a lot more stuff that I left on the table. I could have played a lot faster. I could have done a lot of things better to be a better option and better target for Dak.”
The Cowboy’s next opponent was the Atlanta Falcons and the rookie sensation would take what he did in Week 1 to the next level. With the Cowboys facing a 2nd and 10 from their own 46, Lamb caught an out route for 24 yards down to the 30 which set up Greg Zuerlein’s game-winning field goal from 46 yards out.
Lamb caught six passes for 106 yards, making him the first receiver in team history to have a 100-yard performance in his first two games.
After five receptions for 65 yards in a Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Lamb had his best overall performance in Week 4, albeit in another loss, vs the Cleveland Browns. He only logged 79 yards, but he finally reached the endzone scoring his first two NFL touchdowns.
According to Pro Football Reference, Lamb is first in targets (29), receptions (21), and touchdowns (2) and second in yards (309) for all rookie receivers in the first four weeks. Also, although it’s a small sample size, he’s already building great chemistry with Prescott as they’re connecting at a 71.4% clip so far.
With 12 games remaining, Lamb will only get better and better as the season goes on and continue to make the Cowboys front office look like geniuses for taking him 17th overall in the NFL Draft.
