This was already a hot topic of conversation for many weeks, but now that he has been granted his release because the Colts could not find a trade for him, the Dallas Cowboys should be the first on the phone for Kenny Moore.
Back in April, Moore asked for a trade, but the team was unable to find one that would work for both sides.
Moore asked for and was granted his release from the Colts on Thursday, the team announced.
By releasing Moore, the Colts will save $7.06 million against the cap with a $6.05 million dead cap charge.
Moore, 30, had been with the Colts since 2017. He played 132 games for the franchise with 111 starts, recording 21 interceptions, 68 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, and 11.5 sacks.
Perfect For Dallas
As you know the Dallas Cowboys weakest spot on the football team is the defense, mainly the cornerbacks now that they have Jalen Thompson and Caleb Downs at the safety spots.
Moore only allowed one touchdown in coverage a year ago, and he can play the nickle spot, the exact position that this team needs at corner.
They have a handful of guys on the depth chart right now, but Moore is better than most of them right now.
DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel Jr, Caelen Carson, Cobie Durant and Devin Moore are the main guys right now, three of whom are always battling injuries, and I mean do we really trust Carson? Because I don’t.
He would be perfect for Downs to learn behind if he truly will end up splitting time between safety and nickel.
If you missed it though, they are clearly looking for a body for the CB room because they hosted Adoree Jackson, who, by the way, is not a good football player right now. Jackson is a former first round pick by the Titans, but has not been good for years, he is more of a body that teams have been using.
Last season, Jackson appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and made 10 starts. He recorded 55 tackles, one interception and 11 passes defended.
If I had to pick between the two, I would clearly going with Moore as he can still be a very above-average starter in this league. They are both the same age, but Moore has been more constant and would fit the place that Dallas needs, in the nickle.
Either way, who knows if they will bring Moore in, but again, they are clearly looking for a body with the Jackson visit, so I would be getting on the phone and bringing him in as well.
See what both of them show you, and trust the coaches to make the right call with whom to sign. If they signed Jackson, it is because it would be cheaper, and they could absolutely cut him after June 1st.
If they were to look at Moore, they are doing that because they think he can step in and start when September rolls around. Much different player, much different value and much different needs, but who am I to say that?
We have a long way to go until things really start heating up for the Cowboys, but ESPN released their first way-too-early power rankings and had Dallas in the perfect spot at 16. One spot out of the NFL playoffs.
I think as the summer goes on they will get inside the top 15, but for now, I think they are in the best spot they can be after the offseason, so now we wait and see if they attempt to go after Moore or they stay away and work with what they have in the secondary as of today, a lot will change, but we will see what happens over the next few months.
