The first five groups is where I would say it was easy to rank the positions in the power rankings.
After that, I moved things around, talked myself out of one room for another, just to put it back the way I had it in the first place. Every group I have left has something to like, but also enough shakiness to make me stop short of fully trusting them.
To say this is where the roster might get a little dicey, may be an understatement.
6. Edge Rusher
I have Rashan Gary doing a lot of the heavy lifting for this position’s power ranking. He’s the guy in the room I know can get after the quarterback. Is he great at? No, but he has the most experience and can hold his ground against the run.
After him, we have young guys and still unproven veterans.
Donovan Ezeiruaku showed flashes last year, and has seemed to put on some serious muscle for next season. He has the tools to be one of the best defenders on this team, but we will see if he can put it all together.
Ezeiruaku is expected to be 100% for training camp.
Dallas will be a PROBLEM next season 😈
Sam Williams should be back to being a stand-up pass rush like he was at Ole Miss. I know he has the elite athleticism to be a top pass rusher, but having it and using it are two completely different things.
Rookie Malachi Lawrence could be the player who makes or breaks this power ranking. If he goes off, having the edge rushers at number six could be a big slip up on my part.

7. Running Back
Before you say it, I know Javonte Williams was a workhorse last year. He brought the Cowboys run game back from irrelevance, but behind him is where the questions arise.
Coaches have being singing Jaydon Blue’s praises so far this offseason about his new work ethic. If he has really matured, we could be seeing the emergence of a legitimate threat every time he touches the ball.
After him, Malik Davis, Phil Mafah, and Israel Abanikanda also have a shot at backup running back. Whoever comes out on top could be battling to keep that spot on the roster all season.
I think the competition in this portion of the power ranking is something to monitor as the offseason progresses.

8. Cornerback
I like the names in this room, but trusting those names is a different story.
We have DaRon Bland who can flip a game with turnovers when he is healthy. Cobie Durant is a veteran who also has a pension for interceptions, but there are questions about his tackling, and Shavon Revel Jr. has major upside if he is fully healthy.
I don’t like the unknown factors in this room, but if all is worked out. We could see one of the worst position groups in the NFL become a strength for this team.

9. Tight End
I know Jake Ferguson is carrying this room and being the only threat is why they are this far down the power rankings.
Dak Prescott trusts Ferguson, and he knows how to find space when the middle opens up, but the rest of the group needs to step up.
I will be the first to say Luke Schoonmaker is a major disappointment and I thought he was a reach when they drafted him. Behind him is the guy I believe will have a major impact this season.
That brings me to Brevyn Spann-Ford, who can be a monster if given more opportunities outside just being a blocking tight end. Not many 6’7” 270 pound tight ends are in the NFL.
We don’t need another star tight end, just some competency.

10. Offensive Tackle
I firmly believe this is the room that will make or break the Cowboy season.
Tyler Guyton has talent, but hasn’t been able to put it all together in the NFL, and Terence Steele has more bad days than good.
I need to see a full game of these two just doing their jobs. Is that too much to ask for? All it takes is one good hit on Dak Prescott to put him out for the season and if he is going to get lit up, I know it will be because of one of these guys.

11. Linebacker
I just can’t buy into this room yet. I know DeMarvion Overshown can be a menace, but health is always the question with him. If healthy, he’s a game-changer. If not, he is just another injured college player drafted by the Cowboys hoping for a steal.
Outside of him we have Dee Winters, Shemar James, Jaishawn Barham, and Justin Barron. Not a lot known talent to jump up the power ranking.
Once the games start, somebody in that group has to know what they are doing. Dalla will be asking a lot from young players in the middle of the defense.
Maybe one of them grabs the job and makes me look dumb. I truly hope that is the case.
The Bottom Half of the Power Ranking is Where Dallas Gets Risky
I hope more than a couple of these position groups look a lot better once the season gets rolling and makes this power ranking look like a joke.
Hope is what Dallas Cowboys fans have lived on for decades now, so why change it now, right?
We are used to let-downs, but here is to hoping this year these position groups in this power ranking can get it together and give us old fans something to be proud of.
