The Dallas Cowboys made a high-impact move for an enforcer in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Tyler Booker, the rugged offensive lineman from Alabama, with the 12th overall pick.

Zack Martin’s retirement left Dallas needing a tone-setter on the interior offensive line, and Booker fits that mold perfectly.

He will be backed by a revamped coaching staff led by Conor Riley and Klayton Adams; Booker has a clear developmental path and the tools to thrive.

Strengths: Why Tyler Booker Fits the Cowboys

Physical Run Blocking

Booker is a classic road-grader in the game. His raw strength, pad level, and ability to generate push off the snap fit perfectly with the Cowboys’ downhill rushing philosophy.

I’ve seen some people say that Booker is so bad of an athlete that he cant perform blocks on the move…I’m so messy, here’s him pulling, blocking Lb, CBs, and quick 3 techs. Then him mauling people towards the end.

Steady Pass Protection

In three years at Alabama, starting in 2022, Booker played 1,035 pass-blocking snaps and gave up two sacks. He gave up zero sacks in 2024 while taking 395 pass-blocking snaps.

He uses a wide base, quick hands, and solid balance to lock down interior rushers, which is crucial for protecting Dak Prescott.

Also, I’ve seen some complaints that this pick is just about running the ball more, but Booker is not a slouch in pass pro.nnBooker is one of the best in the draft in at recognizing, communicating, and blocking up stunts and blitzes:

Leadership and Grit

Booker enters the NFL with the mindset of a veteran. A team captain at Alabama, he brings mental toughness and a relentless motor, traits that Dallas prioritizes on the offensive line.

Weaknesses to Address

Lateral Agility

Booker occasionally struggles when asked to mirror quicker pass rushers. Refining his speed and reaction timing will be key in the NFL.

The poor testing is going to turn some folks off of Tyler Booker, but it shouldn’t. Every player has some flaw, maybe they struggle with leverage, power, quickness on the edge, etc, for Booker it’s athleticism and it occasionally shows up on tape, but so does a lot of great play.

Second-Level Consistency

While dominant at the line, Booker has room to grow when climbing to linebackers. Improving timing and positioning can help him finish plays more effectively.

Here’s just one example of a Jalen Milroe rushing touchdown that doesn’t happen without Tyler Booker’s blocking:

Balance

Booker can sometimes play on his heels and sometimes too much on his toes. He will have to figure out the balance issue.

Resolving this issue will help him against quicker defensive linemen who can sometimes get into his chest and stonewall him.

Replacing a Legend: Tyler Booker Steps in at Right Guard

With Zack Martin retiring, Booker is expected to step into one of the most important and iconic positions on the Cowboys’ line: right guard.

Given Martin’s Hall of Fame-level production, it’s a massive role, but Booker offers the right mix of power, polish, and demeanor to grow into it.

His play style is less finesse-based and more power-driven than Martin’s, but under the right coaching, he has the potential to become a long-term anchor and enforcer on the offense.

Expect Booker to bring a more physical, tone-setting approach to the right side while he develops his footwork and technical consistency.

“There’s no better way to breathe confidence into your QB by making sure that he doesn’t get touched.”

Dallas, you’re gonna LOVEEEEE Tyler Booker.

How Coaches Conor Riley and Klayton Adams Will Elevate Booker’s Game

Dallas’s new offensive line coach, Conor Riley, is known for building technically sound, tough offensive lines.

His experience developing physical linemen at Kansas State will directly benefit Booker, especially in refining his movement and pad level in both run and pass sets.

Klayton Adams, the Cowboys’ new offensive coordinator, brings an aggressive, forward-thinking run scheme that plays to Booker’s strengths.

Adams favors quick-developing concepts, double teams, and gap runs, all of which allow Booker to use his power while simplifying early assignments.

Together, Riley and Adams form an ideal development for Booker: physical, technique-focused, and adaptable to a young guard’s learning curve.

These two offensive coaches are offensive linemen gurus. By fixing Tyler Booker’s issues, they will develop him into a player who will be a consistent, dominant presence.

Tyler Booker isn’t just replacing Zack Martin; he’s carving his own path and looking to be the enforcer while taking the love of the game away from opponents.

With elite physical traits, a high football IQ, and the support of a strong offensive staff, Booker has everything he needs to become the cornerstone of the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line.

Right guard may not be the position to gain fame, but Zack Martin showed many years of consistent play and expert leadership. Tyler Booker will fill the hole left by Martin and give fans hope for the offensive line.

Great player, high character, leadership quality.

Love his quote; “I love football. The brand of football I play, I make guys not love football anymore”.

Maybe that mentality will rub off on some of the other players who are thinking about endorsements, money, and gigs after football.
