The Dallas Cowboys went into Week 17 knowing they’d be the #4 seed in the 2018 playoffs. Now they know that the Seattle Seahawks are the fifth seed, and that means Dallas will host Seattle next week in the Wild Card round.
The Seahawks were solidified as the #5 seed when the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Chicago Bears. That loss also allowed the Philadelphia Eagles, who crushed Washington today, to get into the playoffs as the sixth seed.
The Vikings will now miss the playoffs, and the Eagles will travel to Chicago next weekend to face the Bears.
As for the Cowboys and Seahawks, it will be their second meeting this season. Dallas lost 24-13 in Seattle in Week 3.
The Cowboys are a different team now, having won seven of their last eight games. They will also have key players such Ezekiel Elliott, Zack Martin, and Tyron Smith who got a week of rest during their Week 17 finale today against the Giants.
The Seahawks were victorious in a hotly contested game today against the Arizona Cardinals, winning 27-24 on a last-second field goal. That would have given them the #5 seed regardless of what happened in Minnesota.
A Seahawks loss would not have cost them a playoff spot. However, had Seattle lost and Minnesota won their game, then it would have been the Vikings coming to Dallas next weekend.
But instead it’s Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. Dallas is 1-4 against Seattle since Wilson became their quarterback. They’ve lost the last three meetings.
What happens from there depends on the Bears-Eagles game. If Chicago wins, the Cowboys-Seahawks winner will head to New Orleans. If Philly upsets Chicago, then Dallas or Seattle will go play the Los Angeles Rams.
But for now, on to the Seahawks!
