The Dallas Cowboys selected Deuce Vaughn with their 212th pick in the NFL draft yesterday.
He is a smaller running back but was productive at Kansas State. He will be very useful in the passing game and seems to glide around the field.
He had 1,936 yards from scrimmage with 12 touchdowns. The season before, he had 1,872 yards and 22 touchdowns. He made big play after big play.
Yes, the moment his father, Chris Vaughn, the Cowboys college scout, called him was awesome; let’s not think that is the only reason they drafted him. He balled out as a wildcat.

We all know Dallas moved on from Ezekiel Elliott this off-season, so replacing him with Vaughn might bring a different style, but it will help.
He should back up Tony Pollard, with Malik Davis and Ronald Jones seeing their reps also. The only problem with the current backfield is the ability to pass block.
Vaughn might be the best draft pick for the Cowboys this season.
Mazi Smith, the team’s first-round pick, will likely be the most productive right away because of the Cowboys’ awful run defense, and he was a first-round pick.
Smith will fit right in between Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence. He has excellent strength, bench pressing 34 reps on the 225-pound bench.
As the year goes on, we will see Vaughn make a few game-changing plays with what he brings to the table, even as a rookie.
Vaughn was not heavily recruited out of Cedar Ridge High School in Texas, where he rushed for 4,405 yards during his career.
Of the Power Five schools that wanted to bring him in, only K-State wanted him to be an every-down running back.
In 2021, Vaughn became the first Kansas State player voted onto the AP All-America first team in 15 years. He was labeled as an all-purpose player. That year, he was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. AP named him a first-teamer again in 2022.

He has been proving folks wrong for a while now. He will be measured as the smallest player to ever suit up in the NFL. Vaughn will be such a great fit in this offense for Mike McCarthy.
They can do so many different things with him. I would enjoy seeing him and Pollard out there at the same time. Teams would have to expect everything with both of them on the field. Again, my only worry is the depth; we have to pass block.
When someone else comes in, teams may start to understand that Dallas may be passing.
Nonetheless, he is the pick I am most excited about. Others may have a more significant impact from the jump, but expect Vaughn to win a game or two for the Cowboys this season.
We still don’t know how Pollard will recover from his leg injury so Vaughn may get even more reps early on.
With that said, who is your favorite draft pick from the Cowboys this season? I didn’t think they had a great draft, but I hope to enjoy a few of the selected players.
Deuce is a top 5 RB in this draft. If he was 2-3 inches taller he would have been taken in rounds 2-3
Todd Cook his size is definitely why he was a late round pick, his talent on the other hand is worthy of late 1st round, early 2nd round consideration! Could be the next overachiever to take the NFL by surprise!
Shawn Lawther if anyone has a chance to be the next Sproles it’s Duece
Shawn Lawther more like a Top 20 pick in this year’s draft
Our draft started well and ended well, in between, time will tell!
Shawn Lawther I’m a believer in Schoon and Overshown. Schoonmaker is our starting Y-TE, Overshown is healthy and better version of Jabril Cox
I. Worried with his size hrs gonna get killed someone help me ease my mind with thus
I would like to see them use a Vaughan as like a Beasley tape player
Yes great pick but they need to pick a qb for this yrand the future of the cowboys because Prescott can’t win a sb 7 yrs and nothing what a qb lol
Jesse Salinas Manning didn’t
Jesse Salinas Always a negative ass hater like you dude
JR Hamilton I not hating you dumb ass I like the cowboys just that they need a qb lol
Jesse Salinas Like you could do better foh dude
As a running back
It’s hard to argue against Deuce, but my favorite is Overshown. He’s gonna fool a lot of people at how he can glide across the field after Quarterbacks, and Halfbacks. He reminds me of one of the best pursuit men I have ever seen at safety in Dickie Moegle. That guy was everywhere the ball was. He could close a gap quicker than anybody I have ever seen. I can see DeMarvion doing the same thing. Especially playing next to the king of pursuit; Micah Parsons. I see great things in the Cowboys future this next season.
Y’all trippin for real. Our #1 pick is easily our best and our #3 will be really good. But I’m glad you’re happy with Vaughan cause this is setting up to be Daks last season
Hello Shane! Mazi Smith and Deuce Vaughn are the best picks of the draft class. Personally I like Wheat, Luekpe, Land, Durden, and Bostik. I think they could all make the squad this upcoming season. Draft Class, NOT SO GOOD, UDFA Class, Lots of potential!!!
Great read, Shane. I agree…Vaughn was a favorite pick by alot of Cowboy fans (I also liked Overshown…Louis Riddick sold me) Think Vaughn is going to be a matchup nightmare for opponents. And like Lawrences’ response below, I really like the UDFA class this year. Seems to be a common occurrence in recent years. Tip of the cap to the Cowboys scouting department. Again, great article.
I agree
Stop it! Same one who said Tolbert was an immediate contributor!
Good choice.
rember darn sproiles hide behind linemen
Pollard Vaughn gonna be off the chain
Jet sweep is back
Well Barry Sanders was only 5’8 and we all know how he turned out.
He’s a bowling ball…..
And this may not be the last story hyping up each draft pick before they make the team and even then actually play with the big boys. Funny how quickly these gimmick story authors disappear along with the bust picks they hyped before camps and the season.
