It’s hard to find a cornerback that is under more scrutiny than Trevon Diggs. Even after his historic 11 interception season just one year ago, Trevon Diggs was still being questioned coming into this season. However, it looks like Diggs has the answers.
According to Pro Football Reference, through the first four weeks of the 2022 NFL season, Trevon Diggs has two interceptions (tied for 1st in the NFL), nine pass break-ups (1st in the NFL), and has only allowed 157 pass yards and one touchdown. In coverage of over 20+ yards per target, Diggs has allowed zero catches, forced four incompletions, and has a coverage grade of 97.7%.
Trevon Diggs isn’t just covering his receivers or risking it all for an interception; he is locking them down.
In last Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, Diggs completely shut down the Commanders’ attempts at throwing the ball his way. Diggs only gave up one catch, snagged one interception, and allowed a passer rating of 0.0%.
Simply put: Trevon Diggs is putting opposing offenses on notice.
This Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, Diggs will have his work cut out for him as he will be tasked with covering the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year – Cooper Kupp. Kupp has clearly been the favorite target for his quarterback, Matthew Stafford, and Trevon Diggs should have plenty of opportunities to further cement his lockdown mentality.
This Cowboys defense ranks at the top of the league this year, having not allowed any team to score more than 20 points in a game. There are a ton of key players on this defense that are responsible for the team’s success, but it’s time to finally give Trevon Diggs the respect he deserves as one of the top three cornerbacks in the league.
Spoiler: He isn’t #3
