Tell me if you have heard this before, Jerry Jones being the first to talk to the media after a football game.
Right when people thought they might have a slimmer of hope when it came to the defense, that came crashing down as they played a real offense Sunday afternoon.
The Cowboys lost to the Broncos 44-24, and we once again saw a defense that got absolutely gashed over and over again.
What Jerry Said
Jerry Jones is not happy that his team is 3-4-1 eight games into the season, but does anyone actually believe that he is not happy if he gets his media time?
“I am not happy at all with winning three ball games. At all,” Jones said after Sunday’s loss in Denver. “Can we play better? Of course we can play better.”
Jones said he will consider making trades if they can bring in players who will help the Cowboys contend.
“If I saw a proposition for us to help this team, no matter what this score was today, then I would look at it on the merits of helping this team. And if you’re talking about trading for a player or trading a player, I would completely look at it on the merits of the team, both for next week or the weeks after or for the longer term,” Jones said. “Today would not affect a decision on trading for a player.”
Let’s be real, trading for one player is not going to help this Cowboys defense, it starts at the top with the way that Matt Eberflus tries to run it without the personnel to do so, and then the roster is also an issue.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones agreed postgame that his team is far from being one player away:
“Are we one player away on defense? I think we're not. I think we're more than that away. But what we're closer to than it looks, in my mind, is executing better on defense.” https://t.co/xpuiz4KTZT

It is truly amazing how many times players are running wide open on this defense, and trying to rush 4 and hoping James Houston and Donovan Ezeiruaku can create pressure is just not going to work.
One trade is not going to help this defense, and yes, keeping Micah Parson would have probably helped, they would still have been below average at best.
Nonetheless, we have to understand what this team is. If the offense is not PERFECT every single week, they have no chance.
The offense was clearly far from perfect yesterday, but after the game was within two scores in the 3rd quater and Schotty made the decision to punt the ball while on the 50-yard line, I knew it was over.
Play to your strength. Why are you trusting the worst unit in all of football to get a stop?
At the end of the day, Jerry is just talking to talk, and if he was actually bothered by the way the season had started he would do something about it and at least try, but this team needs a pass rusher, linebacker and a guy in the secondary, and he for sure is not making a move for all three.
The defense failure is not about players. Parsons being gone has no effect on receivers running with no defender within 10 yards.None of these secondary/linebackers could be in the league if they as athletes were unable to stay 10 yards from their man. This is 100% about Eburflus and Jerry.
Jones has to stand down at the trade deadline. He cannot afford to go after an elite edge rusher by offering up those premium draft picks in return. He needs to start accumulating draft picks now by packing off the likes of Tolbert, Mazi Smith, Flournoy, Schoonover, Blue, Diggs, Murray, Kneeland, Kaiir Elam and Sam Williams for a slew of mid to low round draft picks! Sadly not one is equal to at least a 4th round draft pick, but they might hit up on someone in those later rounds.
The Jones Collective has refused to bring in solid rotational pieces to fill out the roster on defense for years. Their continued love affair with signing journeymen scrubs, 1st round busts that don’t pan out, and continually relying on late Rd draft picks and UDFA’s is beyond tiresome.
For instance the safety position. Last time this team actually had worthy players at those positions you have to go back to Ken Hamlin and before that Woodson and Roy Williams as a tandem.
Yesterday they had players in the secondary out there that probably shouldn’t be in the league. Watching stretches of that game. Jones is telling the base that Kendall Fuller or Gilmore couldn’t help this defense on the back end? If the offense is slightly off their game they have no chance of winning. And they have to clean up the penalties.
It’s official year 30 and it is been painfully obvious that GM Jackass Jones and his son due to being self servingly arrogant, clueless and cheap can’t replicate what Jimmy built during his 5 yrs here as the HC.
Only way Dallas fans are going to see this team back in the SB is if they buy a PS5 Madden bundle. You guys do some good work covering the Cowboys.
a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the 70’s it’s like I have been saying Jerry Jones doesn’t know what he’s doing as owner and G.M.
