Joe Whitt Jr. selected for a second time to attend NFL Coach Accelerator Program

Dallas Cowboys secondary coach, Joe Whitt Jr. was selected to attend this year’s NFL Coach Accelerator in Minneapolis, MN.

It is his second time participating in the program which is scheduled to take place during the NFL’s Spring League Meeting May 21 – 23.

Participants are selected for the Coach Accelerator based on their potential to be considered for an NFL head coach position in the future.

Whitt happens to have a long coaching resume that includes connections to other current Cowboys coaches.

Joe Whitt Jr. was the cornerbacks coach of the Green Bay Packers when they won Super Bowl XLV.

Mike McCarthy was the head coach of the Packers at that time.

In 2020, he became the secondary coach of the Atlanta Falcons while Dan Quinn was still their head coach.

It was January of 2021 when Whitt became the secondary coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

By joining the Cowboys he was reunited with both head coach Mike McCarthy and Dan Quinn who had become the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator just two days earlier.

Recently, Joe Whitt Jr was considered for multiple defensive coordinator positions. Reportedly, both the Ravens and the Seahawks requested permission to speak to him about their vacant roles.

Whitt has served in various coaching positions for NFL teams since 2007.

With it being that the Coach Accelerator program aims to increase exposure between NFL owners and executives and diverse coaching talent, Whitt’s experience makes him an ideal participant.

Out of this year’s 40 participants, Whitt is one of only 16 who are returning from the inaugural run of the program.

As the program grows and develops, it will be the participation of coaches like Joe Whitt Jr that shape it into a successful endeavor.
