Rise and shine, football fans — NFL Sundays are officially back. It’s been far too long since we’ve had a full slate of games on this magnificent day of the week, so for us Cowboys fans, let’s make sure we’re covered on everything in the NFC East.
It’s obviously too early for any bye weeks, so all four teams in the division will be going at it later today; Dallas, of course, faces the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
Still, I’ll go over everything you need to know for those two, as well as the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, who also face off against one another. It is going to be a great day of action, so let’s jump right into the information you need.
1. Philadelphia Eagles: Reigning Division Champs Start Year With Questions
- Matchup: At Home vs. Commanders (-5.5 Point Favorite), 3:25 PM CST Kickoff.
- Expected Major Injuries: EDGE Jonathan Greenard (Out), TE Eli Stowers (Questionable).
- Biggest Storyline: How will the Eagles offense respond to an OC change and the departure of A.J. Brown?
This may not seem like a high-stakes season for Philly at face value — I mean, they just won the Super Bowl two years ago — but if you dig deeper than that, it’s a pretty important season for multiple Eagles.
The top two are Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni. Both have had performance concerns recently, and with a new OC in town, a bad year by either will call their job into question.
Eagles now will be going on their fifth OC in five years, with two of them leaving for head coaching jobs.
I am predicting a win over Washington today, but a second-place finish overall in the division that leads to further questions, and maybe some action, regarding Hurts and/or Sirianni.
2. Washington Commanders: 2024 Darlings Must Rebound After Disappointing 2025
- Matchup: On Road vs. Eagles (-5.5 Point Underdog), 3:25 PM CST Kickoff.
- Expected Major Injuries: OT Laremy Tunsil (Out, on IR) — Nobody with an Active Injury Designation on the Injury Report
- Biggest Storyline: Can Jayden Daniels remain healthy and succeed under new offensive coaches and system?
This season is absolutely crucial for the Commanders, and Dan Quinn in particular. 2024 produced an incredible run and claims of one of the brighter organizational futures in football, while 2025 brought disaster and questions about what comes next.
Quinn reshaped the coaching staff this offseason, which is something you don’t get to do twice if you don’t mix some winning in there; he might be in the hottest seat in the NFL.
I’m predicting a loss, as I said, against Philadelphia today, and an overall season that doesn’t do enough to keep Quinn in as head coach. As far as Jayden Daniels is concerned, we’re one more injury-riddled year away from full-blown RGIII 2.0 panic.
3. New York Giants: Hope Comes From HC, QB, & RB, But Major Roster Issues Remain
- Matchup: At Home vs. Cowboys (-3.0 Point Underdog), 7:20 PM CST Kickoff.
- Expected Major Injuries: WR Malik Nabers (Questionable)
- Biggest Storyline: Will a new era under Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo, and John Harbaugh emerge, or is it too soon for the Giants to compete?
The Giants will be one of the most watched teams in football these first few weeks; whether that continues depends on their performance.
Obviously, Harbaugh gives them a more credible HC than they’ve had in years, and there is some legitimate raw talent on their roster in 2026. My concern is simple: it won’t be enough in such a talented division.
I am predicting a loss for New York against the Cowboys tonight, and an overall season of struggles, despite all the hype coming in.
4. Dallas Cowboys: Explosive Offense Looks to New Defense for Help in 2026
- Matchup: On Road vs. Giants (-5.5 Point Favorite), 7:20 PM CST Kickoff.
- Expected Major Injuries: RB Malik Davis (Out, on IR), LG Tyler Smith (Out, on IR)
- Biggest Storyline: Can an overhauled defense do just enough for their elite offense to reel in wins, or will another historically bad unit emerge in 2026?
Lastly, we have those Dallas Cowboys, who also have more positive vibes this year than in any in recent memory. It feels like they too found something at head coach, and the front office is moving differently than in years past.
The defensive depth chart and coaching staff look very different, and the offense, which was unbelievable last year, is basically the exact same.
I’m predicting the aforementioned win tonight against the Giants, because Dak Prescott doesn’t lose to the NFC East, and a division crown over the Eagles in 2026. Now, once we start talking playoffs, all bets are off, but I think Dallas gets back atop the division this year.
