QB Breakdown: Should Dallas Cowboys Draft or Re-sign Dak Prescott?

The Dallas Cowboys still haven’t confirmed if Quaterback Dak Prescott will play in Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Still nursing a strained calf from their Week 6 win over the Patriots, Prescott is practicing but the latest reports show nothing is certain yet.

Dak came up limping on the final play from the New England win. Rolling out on play-action, Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for the game-winning touchdown but got hurt in the process.

Thankfully the Cowboys just had their bye week, greatly helping the chance that Dak won’t have to miss a game with this injury. But just two days out from Sunday Night Football, we don’t yet know what his status is.

Last year, despite else everything that went wrong for the Cowboys, they actually got a win in Minnesota. Prescott had been long absent with his season-ending leg fracture and Andy Dalton was the QB that day.

This year’s team is much stronger overall, not missing Tyron Smith and being generally improved on defense. But with Dalton now struggling for relevance in Chicago, Cooper Rush is the next man up should Prescott miss Sunday’s game.

We’ve never really seen what Rush can do in a regular-season game. He’s never started and only attempted three passes since going undrafted in 2017.

This isn’t the week, or the season really, that we want to risk finding out. The Cowboys have incredible momentum on a five-game winning streak and nobody wants to see that end, especially against an NFC opponent and with potential playoff seeding implications at stake.

Hopefully we get the news we all want to hear this weekend. Dak Prescott isn’t just the starting QB but he’s truly become the heart and soul of the team. We all hope his season and MVP campaign continue in Minnesota.

I don’t mind the idea of Cooper starting. I think he has command of the offense and can get the ball where it needs to go. I don’t see the point of risking losing Dak for a larger stretch of the season especially when we have some cushion in the division. This is a vastly different team than the one Dalton was trying to win with.

Personally, I don’t care about DP’s “MVP campaign”. Why does that come up constantly here. We’re 6 games in, and there is still a lot of football to be played. This MVP talk is frankly silly at this point, and I couldn’t care less about that. What I care about is winning games. Bottom line!

Maybe I’m jumping the gun, but starting to wonder about if DP is a bit injury prone NOW. Three injuries in about a year is obviously not good. And if CR starts, let’s be realistic, we probably lose this game. Total failure by this FO for not having a solid QB2. The third stringer may be better, at least he has played in real games.

Your right Vam CR has been around for how long now and I have yet to see him put together a decent drive where he passes us down the the field much less wins a game! The only hope I think we have is to put together a good run game and maybe a few short to medium passes and hope our defense plays lights out!

VAM- Personally I couldn’t care less if Dak wins the MVP. HOWEVER if he is playing at an MVP level, that obviously bodes very well for the team. Few teams are contenders if their QB isn’t playing at a high level. The rest of the team is improved and improving and that will likely be the determining factor as to how far we go this year.

This would be good week for Rush to start. Tuesday is the trade deadline so if Rush plays good Sunday then Dallas will know that Rush can do the job. If he looks terrible then Dallas can trade for Foles or somebody else

Dak must play in Minnesota, the Cowboys, meaning Kellen & McCarthy just gotta try to win a different way. More run Plays with the RB’s, no roll out throws, only in the pocket throws, only in shot gun so he doesn’t have to drop back and plant, if Cowboys were playing a lowly AFC team than they should consider resting him another week, but not against the Vikings, they’re still an formidable team and the Cowboys might need that head to head NFC win later.

They might consider looking at a third round draft pick that is on their roster (higher draft pick than Dak). Grier is ready to fill in for Dak and could start elsewhere if given the chance.

Agree John, I think Grier is better than CR. Would like to see him at our QB2.
