Report: Doug Nussmeier To Stay With Cowboys as QB Coach

The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff is undergoing a lot of changes since the hiring of new Head Coach Mike McCarthy. The former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers is bringing in coaches he’s worked with before such as Defensive Coordinator Mike Nolan.

Most of Jason Garrett’s staff will be gone before the 2020 season. Rod Marinelli, Kris Richard, among others will not be returning to the team after a disappointing 8-8 campaign in 2019. Some of the most surprising farewells were those of offensive line coach Marc Colombo and quarterbacks coach Jon Kitna.

Colombo’s place will be taken by outsider Joe Philbin and we finally know who will be taking Kitna’s place. Unlike Philbin, McCarthy found his guy from within the Cowboys organization.

ESPN’s Todd Archer reported on Sunday that Doug Nussmeier, who’s coached tight ends with the Cowboys since 2018, will change responsibilities to become Dak Prescott’s fourth QB coach in his career.

Nussmeier played in the NFL from 1994 to 1998 and began his coaching career as a QB coach with the BC Lions and the Ottawa Renegades in Canada. He then coached quarterbacks in the NCAA and in the NFL until he finally spent time as an offensive coordinator in various college football programs including Florida, Alabama and Michigan.

Now he’s back to where it all began. Coaching quarterbacks. Only this time he’ll be doing it for the Dallas Cowboys’ promising Quarterback Dak Prescott.

  1. I love the game of football, my high school coach told me, ” love the team, not the player. “. That saying aids in putting together a solid playoff team.
