A lot of talk popped up yesterday about Cowboys second-year cornerback Shavon Revel and how his knee is now 100% healed.
As I was looking over all of this, the first thing that came to my mind was that if he is truly 100%, the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff should not baby him this offseason.
Allow him to get back into the swing of things, but the Cowboys have been known to be overcautious with players coming back from injury.

What He’s Working On
After a torn ACL in November 2024, Revel returned last year, but had a very poor showing. Yes, returning from injury is tough, but he also showed that no matter how good he was in college, there is clearly a gap between that and when you get to the pro level.
“We’ve got a new coaching staff, they’re very detailed and very technical. When it comes to things, each day is intentional to get better. That’s what I feel like I’ve been doing, Revel said.
“Of course there’s some things I need to work on. My knee is 100 percent, so now it’s time to focus on situational ball, and I’ve got to see what I need to fix or get better at.”
The issue I have is that the Cowboys cornerback room is going to need him to have a huge leap in year two. They are banking on nothing but guys returning from injuries to lead the secondary outside of Caleb Downs this season.
It starts with DaRon Bland, another player who, as soon as he had a career year and set an NFL record for interception returns for a touchdown, earned a big contract. Now he can’t stay on the field.
Bouncing back to Revel, if you have not looked at his numbers, he was not good last year.
He made seven appearances (five starts) with 35 total tackles (23 solo), one tackle for loss, and three passes defensed. He also gave up a 73.7 percent completion rate (28 completions on 38 targets) for 331 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 11.8 yards per completion with a 126.1 passer rating.

Again, Revel gave up over 126 passing rating in his seven appearances. That is horrible, like not even below average.
When you look outside those two, they signed Cobie Durant, who I think has been underrated, and Caleb Downs, like I noted, who is slated to play mostly nickel back for these guys.
Then the rest of the cornerbacks are guys that I do not want to see on the field. Caelen Carson, P. J Locke are probably going to be more of a special team player, but the moment one of these guys gets hurt, who is injury-prone, will probably need him to play.
Look, I hope Revel can be that guy he was pre-injury because a lot of folks thought he could go in the first round, and then he got hurt, so we will see if his knee is truly 100%.
I say allow him to work a little bit, and then you can’t wait to set him free, give him full speed action before the season starts or even preseason to make sure that knee can hold up.
I can’t believe that I am saying I trust the linebacker spot more than I do the secondary, which is something I thought I would never say.
Long summer to go, but things are the best they have looked in a while, so let’s hope the drama stays out of the Star, and once mandatory minicamp starts next week we see both CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens out there and getting that work in against Revel and Bland.
