As you probably know by now, the Dallas Cowboys traded for former 3rd overall pick Trey Lance for a 4th round pick.
If not, well, know you do.
So, what exactly does this mean for the Dallas Cowboys?
Well, I promise you it doesn’t mean much for Dak Prescott.
For all you folks who think that a guy who couldn’t beat out Sam Darnold for the backup spot in San Francisco will all of a sudden be the savior for a team that hasn’t won anything in 25 years, is crazy.
Lance is a project and didn’t want to be with the Niners. His walking out of practice earlier this week shows it.
Dak Prescott is the most scrutinized QB in the NFL. Every throw, every int and every decision is broken down and criticized more than any QB in the NFL. Trading for Trey Lance will only give people an excuse to scrutinize even more. pic.twitter.com/KPuiZDNpxJ

Lance played eight total games in the last two seasons, including four starts.
Lance was the 49ers’ starting quarterback going into 2022, but his year ended when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2.
The Niners announced on Wednesday that Lance would be the third string, and because of that, he did not want to be with the Niners.
Outlook for Dallas
The outlook for Dallas mostly stays the same. Lance will come in and be the backup behind both Prescott and Cooper Rush.
Lance is still an unproven player who the 49ers legit just gave up on.
Lance now gets to work behind Prescott and an offensive head coach who has been around Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers.
This doesn’t hurt the Cowboys at all. It is a low give for a potential high reward if something happens to Prescott in the near future and Lance somehow makes his way into the starting job.
The Cowboys have had a second-round grade on him. They now get him for the next two years.
I have said many times that if Prescott does not make at least the NFC Championship game this season with his best roster ever, then I will be close to the end of my time with Dak.
Let’s hear it from our fans. This year hasn’t won anything in 25-plus years, blah blah. I understand that.
I am also a Cubs and Nuggets fan. I witnessed the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 for the first time in over ONE HUNDRED YEARS.
My Nuggets won their first NBA title in franchise history this past season. Dating back over 40 years.
You will never see me give up on the Dallas Cowboys. Not after what I have seen my other favorite teams do, the Championship droughts ended. It will happen at some point.
It just comes a point where all it takes is one year.
This team will make the playoffs again, and when they do it becomes anyone’s game.
Trading for Lance is going to be at the top of every single talk show Monday morning, afternoon and night.
The most talked about player this offseason goes to the most talked about football team in the world.
We will see how this all plays out, but for right now, this means absolutely nothing for the Dallas Cowboys, and believe what you want, it won’t change.
Is there a chance for the Cowboys to get something for Grier? I would even consider the opportunity to trade Rush to a team like the Bengals who have a need and showed interest. Then you can keep Grier who did very well last night, and Lance, both on rookie contracts. We may even be able to get a 5th rounder or so for Rush.
Go Cowboys. Go Cubbies.
I think that you might be right because Grier looked like the game finally slowed down for him!
I agree, I would rather trade Cooper Rush and keep Will Grier!! And I felt this way before Grier had the game he had last nite!! I just think Cooper Rush is way overrated, and he wouldn’t have the record he has if it wasn’t for our defense!! The defense kept teams to 20 points and under and Rush couldn’t get our offense to score more than 25 points, so if it wasn’t for the defense keeping teams to under 20 points, Cooper Rush wouldn’t have won any of those games!! And he’s never had a game like Grier had last nite!! I know last nite was a preseason game against backups, but I think if Rush was in Griers shoes, he wouldn’t have won that game and he wouldn’t have came close to the stat line Grier had!! Rush is lucky the defenders kept dropping his passes, or he would’ve had more interceptions than Grier did this whole preseason, and Rush only played half the snaps Grier did!! (not including this last game!!) so I think the front office should find somebody to trade Cooper Rush to and keep Grier!! The raiders was interested in Rush this offseason, and if it wasn’t for Rush’s flight being delayed he would’ve went to the raiders!! And they were gonna offer him a bigger contract than we did, So they mite be interested in trading for him if it’s not too much!!
Dak wouldn’t look so good without the Defense. Cooper Rush has been solid, each chance he got…
It means we will have a new starting QB5 after QB4 chokes the 2023 season away. Trey Lance your 2024 Dallas Cowboys starting QB
Probably more likely in 2025 if the Cowboys coaching staff can develop Lance
It means that we won’t be winning anything as long as the Jones family are making the personnel decisions. It means that we have likely yet another “quarterback” who can’t perform under pressure on the big stage. It means another year of blood pressure issues
This McCarthy led team is much different. I don’t recall back to back 12 win seasons with this high quality offense and defense..
What do you mean Lance can’t perform under pressure. He’s hardly played. Give the kid a chance. And, by the way, Dak Prescott gonna make you eat crow this year
Dak could be a Romo clone
Fools
As far as this season goes…..it means nothing. Look at it as using a 4th round pick on a developmental QB because that is exactly what it is..
That Will Grier is no longer with the Cowboys
Great Planning for Future
Dak recently turned 30, Trey is only 23
What to take away from last night’s game is, as a QB1, Dak is a better OC than Kellen Moore, and likely Schotty as well. 😉
As for Trey Lance, the good thing about landing with the Cowboys is it’ll keep him close to his new off-season QB coach, Jeff Christensen. Hopefully, Scott Tolzien and Mike McCarthy don’t mess him up too badly during the season.
Other than that, he mainly just needs to stay healthy.
Too early to conclude anything on a 23 year old. Hopefully with some more NFL seasoning/coaching he blossoms, and they may have made a good deal here. After all, he was out most of his second year due to injury.
