Round 7, Pick 248

The fact that the Dallas Cowboys decided to double down on defensive tackles was somewhat surprising, especially considering the depth they already had at the position. But, Carrell is definitely someone that I will be rooting for after listening to his call from Jerry Jones and Company on draft day.

Carrell has some intriguing physical traits to work with and has the versatility to play as the 1-tech or 3-tech in the Marinelli’s 4-3 defensive scheme. But, if the Cowboys were going to double down along the defensive line, defensive end might have made more sense.

Marinelli probably fell in love with Carrell’s relentless motor and effort, but I think this Cowboys draft pick is still a long shot to make the team, which is why I am giving him a Grade C-.
