Round 7, Pick 228

I personally didn’t have a draftable grade on Joey Ivie, which was why I was really surprised that the Dallas Cowboys decided to use one of their seventh round draft picks on him. I think he was at best a priority free agent and I would be surprised if he is not one of the first roster cuts.

However, I may need to go back and watch his tape based on the way Rod Marinelli reacted when Ivie’s name was announced in the war room. Marinelli must have a clear vision on how to use him and that might make all the difference.

Until I’m proven wrong, I have a hard time believing Ivie will earn a roster spot, especially with the depth the Cowboys already have at defensive tackle. I will give this Cowboys draft pick a Grade C- for now, but only because I don’t give failing grades to players until they have a chance to prove themselves.
