Round 4, Pick 133

It wasn’t a huge surprise that they Cowboys decided to finally draft an offensive player in the fourth-round after going defense with their first three picks. What was surprising was that they decided to draft another small Cole Beasley clone.

It was rumored that the Cowboys were targeting San Diego State RB Donnell Pumphrey before the Philadelphia Eagles traded up to draft him one pick before the Cowboys, but I think they actually got the better the deal with Switzer.

Switzer is one of the better return men in the entire 2017 draft class and I expect that’s where he will earn his bones at first as a rookie until offensive coordinator Scott Linehan can figure out how to work him into the game plan. I personally have visions of the Cowboys spreading things out with both Switzer and Beasley on opposite sides, taking an extra defender out of the box for Ezekiel Elliott in the running game.

Because of all of the different ways Ryan Switzer can help as a rookie in both the return game and offense I’m giving this Cowboys draft pick a Grade A-. It definitely wasn’t a need to pick and the Cowboys could have gone a number of different directions, but I think he will have a big role as a rookie.
