Round 6, Pick 191

The Cowboys being able to get Xavier Woods in the sixth round still blows my mind, especially since they considered taking him over Ryan Switzer two rounds prior. The Cowboys absolutely need another rangy safety and Woods is not only that, but can also play out of the nickel as well.

This Cowboys draft pick may end up being the most valuable selection among the entire 2017 draft class for Dallas. I think he will immediately challenge for the starting job opposite Byron Jones and adds another playmaker on the back end of the defense. His versatility to play several positions in the secondary also creates the opportunity to get really creative with coverages.

So, based on where he was drafted and the fact I think he will challenge for starting job as a rookie, I will give this Cowboys draft pick a Grade A+. I’m personally a huge fan and can’t wait to see him on the field. I don’t care if they did have to give up their fifth round draft pick in 2018. It was well worth it.
