2025 has been up-and-down for the Dallas Cowboys through the first two months of the NFL season. Jerry Jones is used to mediocrity and hype surrounding his franchise, and this year, it’s no different.
Cowboys franchise quarterback Dak Prescott has played well in most of his starts this season. Dallas ranks second in points per game, averaging 31.7, although it’s only led to a 3-4-1 record.
The addition of George Pickens at wideout has substantially elevated Dallas’ passing attack. Bringing in running back Javonte Williams also gave a previously anemic Cowboys run game some juice in 2025.
These free agent signings have transformed Dallas into one of the best teams to target when playing daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests.

Dallas has yet to win consecutive games under first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The Cowboys have also tied with the Green Bay Packers, complicating the NFC playoff picture.
Losses to Chicago and Carolina have been notably frustrating. Both games were played on the road away from AT&T Stadium, where Dallas has struggled to find wins. Through Week 8, a 37-22 win against the New York Jets is the Cowboys’ lone road victory.
Pickens and CeeDee Lamb both commented on Dallas’ 20-point loss to Denver after falling to 1-4 on the road.
“It’s all about preparation. We’ve got to come out and execute the things that we’ve always been able to do throughout the week,” Lamb stated.
Pickens echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “…Execution on both sides would help us prevail through this game.”
Defense has been the Achilles heel for Dallas in 2025. They rank 30th in points allowed per game, surrendering roughly 30 points on average.
The defensive woes reached a new low on Sunday, allowing a season-high 44 points. This marks the third time in eight games that the Cowboys’ defense has given up 40 or more points.
Naturally, bad defense has led to Dallas’ front office inquiring about a trade offer for Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro edge rusher, Maxx Crosby. The Raiders have reportedly assured Crosby that he won’t be traded, preventing a potentially great replacement for former Dallas edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Inconsistent play following Sunday’s blowout road loss against Denver continued to be Dak Prescott’s area of focus after the game.
“We’ve gotta find consistency. If we lost a game playing our best, you can somewhat live with that,” Prescott told reporters. “We didn’t play to our identity. We didn’t play to our standard.”
The reality of the Dallas Cowboys is that they are a constant whirlwind of drama. It seems to be the way Jerry Jones wants to operate his league-leading $13 billion franchise.
Since winning the Super Bowl in 1995, the Cowboys have failed to qualify for an NFC Championship Game. Dallas is 8-13 in playoff games during this three-decade span, with their last postseason victory recorded in a 2022 Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
