Well, if you did not know after the first six weeks of the season, the Dallas Cowboys defense is far and away the worst in football, and show no signs of getting better, no matter what the owner has to say.

This defense is on pace to not only be worse than the one led by Mike Nolan in 2020, but is well on it’s way to be the worst the league has maybe ever seen.

I am not kidding when I say that, either.

Take a Look

Through the first six games of this season, the Cowboys have allowed 2,470 total yards against them. They are one of just three teams to eclipse 2,400.

They are ranked 32nd in the league, allowed 30 points for the fourth time in 2025, struggling particularly against the run and pass. In the Panthers game, they permitted 216 rushing yards.

Matt Eberflus, and the defense remains a work in progress, running man coverage on only 6.2% of plays, the lowest rate in the league.

The pass rush has been nonexistent, averaging just one sack per game.

The New Orleans Saints gave up a NFL record 7,042 yards in 2012. The Cowboys are on pace to give up 7,402 yards, they are allowing over 400 a game.

Like how can anyone look me in the face and tell me that the way Eberflus is running the defense is not the issue. Like dude this is not working, just try something else, it can’t be any worse!

Not only that, they are on pace to give up an NFL RECORD 116.9 passer rating. They have made every single QB look good.

What makes this suck even worse is that Dak Prescot is probably playing the best football of his life right now, and he has to score 30 plus points every single week to even give this team a chance.

Outside the Bears game when Lamb got hurt three plays in, they have been in every single football game this year because of the offense and Dak.

He has over a 70% completion percentage, 1,617 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.

At the end of the day, the NFC East is honestly still open and the funny thing is, the winner of the Cowboys and Commanders game next week will be in second place after the Bears beat Washington on Monday night.

This team has no chance at making the playoffs, though, unless something is done about the defense that might be the worst in NFL history.

Very sober analysis indeed. And the bewildering thought that Jerry Jones has given Eberflus his full endorsement escapes me! Jones is and remains the biggest problem of this franchise. His resume of nearly 30 years absent from the Super Bowl and countless failures in playoff games is an indictment of his “hands on” approach in the direction of this club. Nobody questions him or shows any misgivings of his interference. The last individual outside of Jimmy Johnson who defied him was Bill Parcells. And we saw that he did not handle that very well. He has to be in charge! What he needs to do is fire Eberflus and elevate his assistant, as I mentioned on this website a few days ago, to succeed him. To your credit you did mention the asst coach Darian Thompson, a former player for the Giants and the Cowboys as a possibility. What do they have to lose at this point? Right now they are the laughing stock of the NFL.

Cowboys front office apparently has an obvious aversion with drafting DTs. Whether it be bad luck or incompetence or both, they just can’t bring in an elite DT. Go back to bust 2nd rounder (who was their first pick in that draft) Trysten Hill in 2019, up to 1st rounder the “underwhelming” Mazi Smith in 2023.

In between 2019 year and 2024 they drafted one good DT, Osa O. The rest are forgettable – Bohanna, Ridgeway, Rodgers, and decent Gallimore (who had 2 decent seasons). That’s it, in six years, one solid DT (who is more of a penetrating type). They do not prioritize this important position for some unknown reason, and it is biting them in the butt now, as they are getting run over.

This past draft they waited until the SEVENTH round, to draft two, one being Toia (who is a question mark at this point) and the other is not even with the team. Why are they waiting till the seventh! For a team that has had, and continues to have, major trouble stopping the run, the draft picking order/selections do not make sense.
