When you win 40-0, finding any problems from a victory like that is hard.
Although everyone has something to work on, if you watch as I do, I’m sure we all noticed the drop by Peyton Hendershot in the endzone on a great thrown ball by Dak Prescott on a gross rainy night in New York.
Another pass was dropped before that for a first down, but things went about as well as they could have last week.
Now, the Cowboys are staring at one of the best defenses in football in the New York Jets this week.
With the loss of Dalton Schultz, the drop-off in production would take a bit of a hit, but not a ton.
You have three guys in that room who can make up his production, but first, they must catch the football!
Schultz only caught two passes for four yards in week one for the Texans, so it’s not like he did any better.
That was his decision to go after that money.
Jake Ferguson was the only TE to catch a pass for Dallas. He had two for 11 yards. Henershot dropped a touchdown right in his bread basket and another right at the sticks for the first down.
The Cowboys will continue to trust these guys. They run a lot of 12 personnel. (One running back, two tight ends).
They will need to be on the field.
We knew we’d have to deal with growing pains as this is one of the youngest groups on their team, but they need to stay ready and catch the next ball thrown their way.
There’s no reason to worry about it, but Dez Bryant thinks the Cowboys should trade for Kyle Pitts.
I can’t say I hate that idea with how he’s being used in Atlanta.
Pitts was the leading receiver for the Falcons in week one, with TWO catches for 44 yards.
Yes, they beat the rebuilding Panthers, but If I were the Cowboys, it wouldn’t hurt to get on the phone in a few weeks and see if they would deal with him after they are out of playoff contention.
They have a solid young team, so it is hard to see them dealing with him, but with Jerry Jones, you never know.
End of the day, the Cowboys will be 2-0 after this Sunday. The tight ends will need to play a significant factor in the running and quick passing game this week.
The Jets have a top-five defense in football. The Cowboys should live in the 12-personal all game.
Drops are one thing, but it isn’t very pleasant when you drop them for a touchdown.
It was the first week, and they won 40-0. So let it go and move on. Let’s also remember that it is pouring down all night. That doesn’t help with first-game jitters for those guys.
This week at home is the perfect game for them to get on track, and ready for the rest of the season.
Expect one of the guys in the room to catch a touchdown pass this weekend.
Block , catch the ball ! Cmon Man ! Go Cowboys !
It looked pathetic
“The TEs can be great?” Really, that’s all you got? Based on what can you make this claim?
Yes, a room of 3 above average players can make for a great TE room, they all do their own thing really well. 3 > 1.
Well…Ferguson has 1 season under his belt, he showed he can be serviceable. Hendershot has proven nothing, nor has their 2nd round pick. So, to talk about potential for greatness seems entirely wasted on the TE unit. How would you quantify greatness anyway. And is 3>1 if for example you had 1 exceptional TE? Witten, Novacek, DuPree were great TEs.
That is my point… I never called any of them great in the present tense, they are a work in progress, but can be a great room if they just do what each of them do well.
Dallas runs a ton of 12-personnel, they all will see the field plenty.
And my point is…why focus on a unit that Can (might, maybe) great some day? esp. when collectively they looked so bad in the 1st week? You could say that about our RBs, Safeties, 3rd string QB, OL back-ups…
Shultz was no rockstar his first year & a half in the league. Furgeson has shown glimpses of toughness, good catch & runs & he’s got just enough crazy in him to be special! Tolbert was last year’s bust now everyone is clamoring for him to be on the field every game! Same thing he’s shown promise thru training camp & preseason. Let the season unfold.
They have the dropsies
It’s bad when your second round pick can’t even crack the rotation when the two in front of him are not impressive. Wasted draft pick as the whole world knew.
