Well, if you stared any of the Cowboys – with the exception of Tony Pollard and Michael Gallup – you had a bad week.
If you had any of the Miami Dolphins’ players on offense, you had a great week. And, if you are like me and played teams with Dolphins’ players on the roster….oof.
In other words, just another typical week of madness that is fantasy football.
In the case of the Dallas Cowboys, it was a week of misery.
Few Bright Spots On Offense
A couple of players put up some decent numbers in the loss. Pollard had 122 yards rushing.
But he wound up catching three passes for a negative- one yard. Pollard failed to find the end zone.
Michael Gallup caught six passes for 92 yards – his best game of the year so far – but also failed to find paydirt.
Dak Prescott threw for 249 yards and a touchdown to Rico Dowdle. But Prescott also threw his first interception of the year to deduct some points from his totals.
The touchdown helped boosts Dowdle’s fantasy output to go along with 21 rushing yards and 25 receiving yards on four catches.
Brandon Aubrey went 3-for-3 in field goals, including a 49-yarder, and made his lone point after try.
No Defense For The Defense
The defense fared little better, getting run over in the second half. They were torched on a deep ball that all but sealed the Cardinals win.
The unit failed to record a turnover and only sacked Joshua Dobbs twice during the game.
In IDP leagues DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons had decent numbers with five tackles and a sack each. Damone Clark had 10 tackles to lead the team.
The Trade Judge Is In
Sean presents this case for the court’s review:
“I was offered a trade in my standard redraft league. I get Calvin Ridley and Jets Defense for Dallas Defense. What do you think?”
Well, Sean, you got this offer the day before Trevon Diggs blew out a knee in practice.
Had I made a ruling before that news broke I would have said you were crazy to make that trade.
Now that we’ve seen the Dallas defense play a game without Diggs?
If you can get that other owner to make the trade, do it. Like, stop reading this and do it right now.
Thanks for sending in the trade question, Sean. Best of luck on the season.
If you have a trade you’re considering, or if there’s been a trade in your league that has you seeing red, let me know about it.
Send the details to me at this e-mail address: fantasytradejudge@yahoo.com.
The Miami Massacre
The Dolphins were two points shy of breaking an NFL record on Sunday. They mercifully declined a field goal inside of 40 yards in the final seconds.
The 1966 Washington Redskins remain in the record book as the most points scored by a team in a game with 72.
The 1966 New York Giants probably wouldn’t have minded seeing the Dolphins make the attempt however.
Tua Tagovailoa had four touchdown passes and 300 yards. Tyreek Hill had nine catches for 157 yards and a score.
De’Von Achane had 203 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Achane added 30 yards on four catches and two more touchdowns.
Raheem Mostert only had 82 yards rushing but scored three times and added another touchdown on seven catches for 60 yards.
In short, they racked up a lot of points
The Week In FFL
0-4 with three teams. Bet not many of you can say you had a week like that?
This is what happens when all three of your teams are facing teams with Miami Dolphins players littering their rosters.
One of my leagues loves to have doubleheaders. The kicker is that gave me an extra chance to get stomped by a Dolphins player.
And in two cases, two Dolphins players at that.
I can sympathize with the Denver Broncos this week as well as any of you who ran into that buzzsaw in your leagues.
The only silver lining was that even if I had started perfect lineups in all three leagues I would not have won.
It happens. Nor is it panic time for me, or any of you off to an 0-4 start.
In 30+ years of playing, I’ve rebounded from 0-3 starts to make the playoffs.
I even made the championship game one year after starting 0-3.
Now, starting 0-4 might be asking for too much but we’ll see. Right now is the time to examine your roster and scour the waiver wire.
Time to cut some dead weight and see if you can get your ship righted.
The Records:
- Grim Reapers 1-2
- Pigskin Fiction 0-3
- Scribe’s Penmen 0-4
All-Time regular record (since 1989 – and yes, I keep track of such things): 609-485-7 (.556).
I’ve got 26 division titles and 12 league championships under my belt. What? You think I only religiously keep track of records for the Cowboys?
