The Cowboys can land Myles Garrett without losing their future picks — and must act fast before the rival Eagles make the same move.
Why the Cowboys Must Move Fast on Myles Garrett
The Dallas Cowboys have a golden window to make a move that could reshape the NFC for years.
Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett could be available if he lifts his no-trade clause — and Dallas cannot afford to let the Philadelphia Eagles swoop in first.
Garrett is the type of player who changes everything: a four-time All-Pro with a rare blend of speed, power, and intelligence. His addition would instantly elevate Dallas’ defense from terrible to average.
With Micah Parsons now in Green Bay, the Cowboys lack a true alpha edge rusher — and Garrett fits that role perfectly.
Why the Cowboys Can Afford It
The Cowboys are uniquely positioned to pull off a blockbuster.
In 2026, they hold two first-round picks — their own and one from the Packers via the Micah Parsons trade. Even if Jerry Jones sends both first-rounders to Cleveland, the Cowboys still retain two more first-round picks in 2027.
That means Dallas can make the biggest trade of the decade without mortgaging its future.
A realistic proposal could look like this:
- 2026 1st-round pick (Cowboys)
- 2026 1st-round pick (Packers via Parsons trade)
- 2027 3rd-round pick (conditional on team performance)
Financially, it works too. Garrett’s 2025 cap hit of $22.9 million is manageable, and Dallas could restructure to spread the cost over several seasons. With so many young players on rookie deals, the Cowboys can afford this type of superstar salary.
Why the Browns Should Consider It
Trading Myles Garrett would be painful, but for the Browns, it could also be pragmatic.
Garrett’s four-year, $160 million contract backloads heavy cap hits: nearly $29 million in 2027 and $31 million in 2028. By dealing him now, Cleveland would:
- Shed more than $30 million in future salary obligations
- Gain multiple first-round selections
- Reset a defense that’s aging and expensive
With Deshaun Watson’s massive deal weighing down the cap, the Browns need flexibility. Moving Garrett while his value is highest could be the smart long-term play — especially if he’s willing to waive his no-trade clause.
Why Dallas Can’t Let Philadelphia Get Him
Make no mistake — the Eagles are lurking. Philadelphia has the cap space, defensive need, and general-manager aggressiveness to pursue Garrett if he becomes available.
If the Cowboys hesitate, Garrett could land in Philadelphia green, forming a terrifying duo with Jalen Carter. That would give the Eagles the NFC’s best front and put Dallas permanently behind in the divisional arms race.
This isn’t just about improvement — it’s about preventing your biggest rival from taking control of the conference. The Cowboys have the picks, the money, and the motivation to strike first.
A Win-Win Deal for Both Sides
- Dallas gets a generational defensive force who immediately changes their season’s trajectory.
- Cleveland gains two premium first-round picks and cap flexibility for a strategic reset.
Garrett’s dominance — elite pass-rush win rates, consistent double-digit sacks, and unmatched leadership — makes him worth every penny and every pick.
Strike Before Philly Does
The Cowboys rarely get a chance to make a bold move without destroying their draft future. This is one of those moments.
If Myles Garrett lifts his no-trade clause, Jerry Jones must act immediately.
Because if the Eagles beat them to it, the balance of power in the NFC East could shift for years.
Garrett is a star in decline due to age . But, tehre is no magic for the defnse with getting a hero player. The issue is Eburflus and his scheme. Fire Eburflus, get a competent DC and that can change the defnse overall. The Boys do need better core defnders in all 3 areas and that is what to use those picks for–not one aging guy. Garrett to Philli can help Philli win a SB and then collapse faster as the cap closes them down. Garrett is an all-in , win one SB chance for other teams. You do not give up all your picks to change 5-11 to 7-10.
It is in universal agreement that Eberflus’ is terrible for the Cowboys, probably for any team for that matter. His scheme removed Diggs and Bland, two of our best players, from playing to their strengths. I don’t understand management for their decision to make the hire instead of hiring Al Harris as DC. I think having corners playing 10 yards off on 3 and 3, for instance, is the worst part. The lack of blitzing also leaves the pass rush predictable. I enjoy Ez’s bend, rushing ability and we have a good one there. But, there isn’t much else to generate rush. It is clear that Osi needed Parsons to gain pressure that he seemingly can’t generate on his own. It is clear that Osi’s money should have been applied to signing Parsons who isn’t reliant upon others to rush effectively and Parsons’ effective price tag would not have then been a cap breaker.
We don’t need help in all 3 areas of the defense, we have plenty of good players all over the defense…. You had it right at the beginning, our problem is the scheme Eberflus is running!! But the problem is that Eberflus is actually a really good defensive coordinator, he’s just stubborn and keeps trying to get the players to fit his scheme instead of making the scheme fit his players!! He just don’t realize that our players don’t fit in his scheme, our players are meant to play in man coverage, and blitz the QB, and Eberflus’ scheme don’t do any of that!! And obviously you haven’t noticed that Garrett is more than a help a team win one Super Bowl, Garrett is getting older, but he’s still got plenty of really good years ahead of him!! He’s not gonna turn into a bad player after just one year!! He still has 3 years at least left on his contract, and I guarantee he’ll still be one of the best edge rushers in the NFL by the time his contract is up!! And when his contract is up, he’ll get another top of the market contract for 3 or 4 more years, and he’ll still be one of the best in the NFL through that contract too!! So he’s still got plenty of years left in his career!! Which means he’ll help Philly win more than just one Super Bowl, he would help them win 5 more if he stayed with them that long!! The problem is that I don’t think the Browns are dumb enough to trade him, even if he dropped his no trade clause!! If they wanted to trade him, they would’ve done it when he asked to be traded, before they gave him this last extention that included the no trade clause!! So idk what this article was written for, it’s pointless to even think that anybody could get Garrett from the Browns!!
Jones is aging too, and he is prepared to do what is necessary to plug in an immediate fix to get the Cowboys in the playoff. What Jones refuses to understand is the Cowboys aren’t just one player away from contending, but are a half dozen players away from reaching the elite category.
Sorry … I think u r reaching Cowboys had exact copy of Miles Garrett ( type of player) in = Mackil Parsons and = had him = could have keep him = but didn’t want 2 pay the Price in other words Didn’t think it was worth it = or Didn’t Match Long term Cowboys orginaztions plans … There r Not trading 4 Miles Garrett … please write Sci Fi ( aliens r hiding among humans) or Dragons stories ( got,) if u r writing Fiction
Parsons wasn’t even close to being a Miles Garrett, Garrett is a lot better than Parsons ever has been!! And btw, his name is Micah, not Mackil!! And he wasn’t worth the the contract Green Bay gave him, and Garrett is making way less than Parsons is, so if we wanted to trade for him we would because Garrett is actually worth the money he’s being paid!! And another thing is, Jerry offered Micah a contract, and Micah agreed to it, but Micahs agent didn’t like that he wasn’t involved in the negotiations, and then Micah decided to listen to his agent, and that’s why he ended up getting traded!! Jerry just got tired of Micah going back on his word!! Not to mention the fact that Micah was nothing but a distraction!! So he wasn’t worth keeping anyways!! So you mite wanna get your facts straight before you write your Sci Fi comments!!
The Browns won’t trade Garrett even if he does drop his no trade clause!! If they wanted to trade him, they would’ve done it when Garrett was asking to get traded instead of giving him a contract extension and making him one of the highest paid edge rushers in the NFL!! And if Garrett wanted to be traded, he wouldn’t have put the no trade clause in with the new contract he got!! So I don’t think we have to worry about Philly getting him, because Garrett isn’t going anywhere!! He’ll stay in Cleveland!! We don’t need him anyways, he’s not gonna help this defense, the only thing that’ll help this defense is getting Eberflus to change his scheme!! We have plenty of good pass rushers, we have plenty of good defensive players, but they’re not good in the scheme Eberflus is running!! So until Eberflus changes his scheme, it won’t do any good to trade away all of our premium draft picks on one player when that one player won’t help anything until the scheme is changed!! But if Eberflus does change his scheme, you’ll see that we don’t need another pass rusher!! The only thing we mite really need is a LB that’s good in coverage, because we don’t have one of them!! We need a LB that can keep up with a TE or RB if it’s needed, and we don’t have it!! That’s why we should call Cincinnati about Logan Wilson!! He’ll be a big help since he plays a position that we actually need help at!! So that’s the move we need to make, not going after an edge rusher!!
Cleveland just signed Garrett only 4 or 5 months ago to his contract. I really doubt he’ll go anywhere this season or next.
