With the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine quickly approaching at the end of the month and the NFL Draft to follow, I wanted to get a jump start on potential prospects the Dallas Cowboys could be interested in this year. Their allotted 30 pre-draft visitors is always a good indication of what players and positions they could be targeting, but so is “Dallas Day” for local prospects. The latter is what I want to focus on today.
“Dallas Day” is for prospects who either grew up in the Dallas area or attended college at one of the local universities (TCU, SMU, North Texas). These prospects don’t count towards the 30 allotted national visits teams are allowed. “Dallas Day” has been a great tool for the Dallas Cowboys over the years and should continue to be so this year as well. In fact, I was surprised to find there are several local prospects they could draft this year.
Let’s take a look…
| PLAYER | POS | SCHOOL | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | DeMarkus Acy | CB | Missouri |
| 2. | Hakeem Adeniji | OL | Kansas |
| 3. | Darius Anderson | RB | TCU |
| 4. | Eno Benjamin | RB | Arizona State |
| 5. | Ross Blacklock | DL | TCU |
| 6. | Akilian Butler | WR | Boise State |
| 7. | Darrion Daniels | DL | Nebraska |
| 8. | Devin Duvernay | WR | Texas |
| 9. | Mason Fine | QB | North Texas |
| 10. | Aaron Fuller | WR | Washington |
| 11. | Tipa Galeai | EDGE | Utah State |
| 12. | Jeff Gladney | CB | TCU |
| 13. | Trevis Gipson | EDGE | Tulsa |
| 14. | AJ Green | CB | Oklahoma State |
| 15. | LaDarius Hamilton | EDGE | North Texas |
| 16. | Kedarian Jones | WR | Memphis |
| 17. | Justin Madubuike | DL | Texas A&M |
| 18. | Kenneth Mann | EDGE | Oklahoma |
| 19. | Jared Mayden | S | Alabama |
| 20. | Chris Miller | S | Baylor |
| 21. | Lee Morris | WR | Oklahoma |
| 22. | Lucas Niang | OL | TCU |
| 23. | Jeffrey Okudah | CB | Ohio State |
| 24. | Sewo Olonilua | RB | TCU |
| 25. | James Proche | WR | SMU |
| 26. | Jalen Reager | WR | TCU |
| 27. | JR Reed | S | Georgia |
| 28. | Reggie Robinson | CB | Tulsa |
| 29. | Laviska Shenault | WR | Colorado |
Okudah would be awesome, but would have to break the bank. Raegor could be a slot replacement for Cobb. Shenault could be an option if Coop bolts and could trade down in 1st round to nab him. Madubuike or Blalock could make sense in rd 2 but only if they want penetrating DTs not a run stopper. Acy, Green, Duvernay, and Niang could be options in the 4th and fifth rounds. Of the late round/UDFA’s I like edges Gipson and Galeai, QB Fine, OT Adeniji, and RB Benjamin.
I’m a big Reagor fan and I think he could play both on the outside and inside just as effectively as well as upgrade the return game. Shenault is raw, but could be one of the best WRs in this year’s draft class. Everything else you said makes sense as well. “Dallas Day” could be a good tool for them to use this year.
