Mike McCarthy has a chance to do something as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys that nobody has done since the 90s.
Win 12 or more games in a season three straight times.
Under Jimmy Johnson and Berry Switzer from 1992 until 1995, the Dallas Cowboys won 12 or more games four years in a row.
The team also won three Super Bowls during that time.
Mike McCarthy
Although McCarthy hasn’t produced even an NFC Championship appearance during his tenure, it is better than what the team got from Jason Garrett.
We’ve been through a lot of 8-8 seasons, missing the playoffs by a game or so, but with McCarthy, it has been nice to at least have a chance when January rolls around.
Dallas won their 11th game last week against the Lions and can win their 12th and capture the NFC East title on Sunday against Washington.
If the Cowboys win, they will be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and have at least the first two games at home, they wouldn’t have to play the 49ers until the NFC title game.
A lot of people including myself have had their problems with McCarthy and I still don’t trust him late in games.
Outside of that, we can’t ignore what he is about to do for the team. Folks still want him fired, but when I think about that I just think about the times before he got here.
A lot of average seasons and not playing playoff football.
His offensive system is clearly working and it’s clearly more efficient than Kellen Moore’s system from the last few seasons, and players rally behind him. He’s more than done enough to earn his stay.
Winning in this league is hard, and Dallas has done it well over the last three seasons.
Legacy
If McCarthy wins a Super Bowl with the Cowboys, this would do wonders for his legacy as a head coach.
Two titles, and over 150 wins between the Packers and now the Cowboys.
If he is the coach to lead them to their first Super Bowl victory in over 25 years, it says something about him.
I am not saying they are going to win it all this season, but a Super Bowl victory would stamp his place in the Hall of Fame.
Take Care of Bussiness
The Cowboys have one simple goal, win Sunday against Washington and the NFC East is theirs.
We all saw what happened last year to end the season.
Washington hit Dallas right in the mouth and the Cowboys looked awful.
This game won’t be a walk in the park like most think.
Dallas are double-digit favorites, and you know the Commanders would love nothing more than to spoil any chance the Cowboys have of winning the NFC East.
The Eagles falling flat on their face gave the Cowboys this chance.
Don’t play with your food on Sunday, if Dallas wins this game, the streak of the NFC East stays alive.
No team has won back-to-back division titles since the Eagles did it in the early 2000s.
Well Cowboys Nation want 16 Wins this year!
Awesome now let’s c what he can do if he can coach this team into the superbowl or 1 and done let’s do this go BOYS
How about we not tote up that 12th win until *after* the game?
Fans and media like you drive me crazy how y’all just assume the win. You probably assumed we’d beat the Cardinals, too, right?
You know what they say about ass-u-me????
With all the talent he has, he should have won at least 1 Superbowl.
Yes, if the Cowboys win this next game, then Mike McCarthy will have the Cowboys winning 12 games in a season three times in a row. Yes, this has not happened since the 1990s, from 1992 to 1995.
But it’s bigger than that.
He will be the first coach since *Landry* to win 70% of his games in a season three times in a row. The Cowboys won 70% four seasons in a row in 1992 to 1995, but under two different coaches. Jimmy Johnson in 1992-1993, and then Barry Switzer in 1994-1995.
[I changed it to 70% of all games to make a meaningful comparison with shorter seasons. That would include 12 wins in 17 games (70.6%), 12 wins in 16 games (75%), or 10 wins in 14 games (71.4%).]
But it’s bigger than that, too.
If they win this week, McCarthy will be the first coach since Landry to win 70% of the games in three different seasons at all.
Tom Landry. 14 out of 29 seasons.
Jimmy Johnson: 1992, 1993. 2 out of 5 seasons.
Barry Switzer: 1994, 1995. 2 out of 4 seasons.
Wade Phillips: 2007. 1 out of 3 full seasons.
Jason Garrett: 2014, 2016. 1 out of 9 full seasons.
And **IF** they win this Sunday, …
Mike McCarthy: 2021, 2022, 2023. 3 out of 4 seasons.
Prof me wrong Coach in the play- offs ….!
Clown can’t Coach Pee – wee football
Tom Rugenstein his coaching is better than your comment or grammar
And still on the hot seat. Especially if they get beat in the first round
