The Dallas Cowboys will not be making a head coaching change.
Mike McCarthy will return for the 2024 season, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
After another one and done in the playoffs at home against the Packers, many thought Jerry Jones would finally fire McCarthy.
We should have known better. It was reported Wednesday night that big Mike will return as the head coach of the Cowboys next season.
McCarthy, is 42-25 in four regular seasons with Dallas.
He has one year left on his contract, has won 12 games in three straight seasons, but only has ONE playoff victory.
Jerry Jones has become the problem in Dallas.
He refuses to listen to the fan base and truly understand what and when changes need to be made.
This now means the team will more than likely extend Dak Prescott and run it back.
Not sure if Dan Quinn will return or not, but you can’t possibly sit here and give me a good reason why this core should all come back.
They choked away their best chance to reach the NFC title game!
Everyone wants to point to the 12 wins each of the last three seasons, but I’m sick of that.
I have been a Cowboys fan my entire life, born in 1996, and have seen 4 playoff wins.
I am sick and tired of winning regular season games.
If Dallas struggles at all this season, look for a Wade Phillips-Jason Garrett type situation.
With McCarthy in the last year of his deal, Jones better be ready to fire him if they struggle at all to start the year.
When does enough become enough for Jerry Jones?
This was not a post I wanted to right, in fact, I was hoping it would be McCarthy being fired.
How are we even suppose to look forward to next season with him returning?
I hate being a Cowboys fan.
I wouldn’t say it is the worst decision right now. Jerry does not want to change and the team is somewhat close. But there has to be accountability. If someone doesn’t show up on game day they should ride the bench at least for the game and maybe longer. The thing is game day matters. Every game day. And if they cannot get it up on game day and be prepared every week (including adjustments and substitutions and contingencies) for what is going to come at them then the next thing to do is gut the whole team and bring in a football gm to build a program. What happened is really inexcusable for a professional team that is well trained and paid extremely well. There can be no more excuses going forward. If so move the team somewhere else and let the nfl add a new dallas franchise.
I’ve been Cowboys fan my whole life and was born 1961. McCarthy has 1 year left on his contract. Let him play it out. Dallas looked better this year than they have in a long time. People forget they also lost Diggs one of the leagues best CB. Fans are fickled. If they fired McCarthy and new coach goes 5-12 those same fans would be complaining that we shouldn’t have fired McCarthy. Dallas needs to get stud RB. Somebody the opposition fears and this would help out Prescott and the play action tremendously.
Since Big Mac doesn’t coach defense, and your D-coordinator doesn’t comprehend anything but sacks and I-N-T’s; get all you can and hope the opposing offense doesn’t have a run game. LOL with that~! OR, maybe let Big Mac choose the DC for maybe his last season.
The Cowboys went into 2023 knowing that Tony Pollard was not the same kind of Bruiser that Zeke had been. They got a fullback, whom I believe has some potential, that went untapped. You either needed another bruiser, or maybe a Devon Achane compliment with he and Pollard following a lead blocker, kinda like that guy . . . what was his name . . . oh yeah, Emmit Smith. But why did Malik Davis spend the season on the practice squad? Myself, I’d be using that fullback running Pollard behind him 50% of the time with the other 50% split between between Dowdle and DAVIS, not a good human interest story for less than 2 YPC. And, oh yeah, throw the fullback a bone once in a while. Just don’t do it on the goal line in Miami with a play that didn’t look like Dak & Luepke had practiced. What’s up with that Schott? So some blame certainly falls on Big Mac.IN the bigger scheme of things, the blame lies exactly where it’s been since Jimmy departed about half a lifetime ago.
Gallup is trying, but is not back. Brandin Cooks is not Amari Cooper. And similar mistakes were made elsewhere including defense. Or as I said in another post; quit trying to buy a Rolex at a garage sale. Bargains come via the Draft, and with a longer life expectancy of 4 years or more, or hopefully less, for some. And by the way, who was watching the Michigan TCU game in 2023 ’cause I don’t remember hearing Mazi’s name called much. And Kendre Miller didn’t exactly set the world on fire as a rookie RB in Orlens.
If you don’t have a defense that can stop the run; Get One~! Goodbye, DQ~! Reinventing the wheel with a 5-1-5, 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 defense where one of the LBs is actually a DE or edge doesn’t cut it if you only have 1 LB on the field with 1/2 a nose tackle, or 1/2 of 2 DTs. And that’s if you really call Odighizuwa a DT? (I think he’d be better in a 3-4 as a DE) but if you want to hybridize, play a 3-3 with Parsons on the edge beside Osi with at least 2 LBs that can play the run. But that would require a Nose Tackle the Cowboy’s don’t have. Geez, I even long for the days of the FLEX defense, LOL~!
Mike McCarthy Jerry Jones didn’t give you a new contract because you didn’t win the super bowl
