We are one day away from the 2026 NFL Draft and the Cowboys could trade up to get Arvell Reese. Wouldn’t that be a dumb decision?
I like Arvell Reese and I understand why fans could get locked in on him as a draft prospect. He has the vision, range, and explosiveness, but wanting the player and paying the price to get him are two completely different things.
If Dallas is serious about moving into the top three for Arvell Reese, that’s where I think they get reckless.

We All Know Why Arvell Reese is So Tempting
Most football fans have watched Ohio State play and have seen Arvell Reese wreak havoc all over the field.
When you watch a player like Reese, you start picturing a guy flying downhill, chasing sideline to sideline, and giving the Cowboys another front seven piece that a offense has to account for every play.
I think he is talented enough to make fans dream big, and I get it because I have been guilty of the same thing. Arvell Reese may or may not be overrated. I don’t know. I can’t see into the future.
But when you start talking about jumping into the top three for a player, this stops being about whether the player is good, and it becomes about whether the player is worth the price.

Dallas is Already in a Strong Spot
Dallas has pick 12 and pick 20 in the first round, and I strongly believe that is a strong position to be in when the team has multiple needs.
More importantly, it gives the Cowboys the opportunity to come out of the first round with two impact players instead of one splash player.
The defensive side of the ball is more than one player away from being competent. Having two top-20 picks is a gift and gives Dallas a real chance to improve two areas on the defense instead of settling on one area.
I know that kind of flexibility is valuable, and you don’t just throw it away.

The Trade Chart is Where This Falls Apart
This is the part that kills the idea completely for me.
If Dallas wants to go from pick 12 to pick 3, the cost is going to be massive. On the old Jimmy Johnson trade chart, the 3rd pick is worth 2,200 points. The 12th pick is 1,200 points, and pick 20 is worth 850.
I’m not a math wiz, but those do not add up to enough value for the Arizona Cardinals, who hold the 3rd pick.
The two picks from the Cowboys would equal 2,050 points, meaning there would have to be other picks or players attached to get the value up above 2,200 points. The Cowboys would have to get over the value because we all know there is a trade-up tax.
That’s too much for me.
If I’m paying a top-three price for a non-quarterback, I need to believe I’m getting a no-doubt monster with almost no debate next to his name.
Arvell Reese is talented and exciting, but I don’t think he is the kind of prospect that Dallas should torch 12,20, and whatever else it takes to get to the 3rd pick.
