The Dallas Cowboys will take the field at AT&T Stadium against the Detroit Lions this afternoon riding a two-game winning streak – on the road at that.
Unfortunately, they will also bring a two-game home losing streak on the field too. All three of Dallas’ wins have been on the road.
They are 0-2 at home this year and the last team they want to see to break through for that first home win will be out there to greet them.
Detroit likely immediately circled this game when the schedule came out in May. Especially given how their last visit to Dallas ended.
If you think the Lions aren’t still seething over the sequence of events that played out with 23 seconds left back in December, you haven’t paid attention.
In a recent home game, the Lions had an offensive lineman report as eligible. The crowd cheered in derision when the officials announced it.
It was the same play, and player, that was involved in the chaos in December when the Lions went for two and the win in a 20-19 loss to Dallas.
To be honest, they probably have a right to be mad. They are also highly motivated to avenge that loss.
Detroit is 3-1 and coming off a bye week as they try to keep pace with the 5-0 Vikings in the NFC North.
Dallas is 3-2, trying to keep pace with the surprising Commanders in the NFC East, and also trying to overcome a lot of key injuries.
The Cowboys cannot get into a shootout with the Lions. Nor can they afford to settle for field goals and hope to explode in the fourth quarter.
The Lions have an offense that won’t be clinging to a 10-6 lead after three quarters.
All-Time Against The Lions
The good news is that Dak Prescott is 5-0 against the Lions in his career. Dallas has also won the last six meetings between the franchises.
That streak has helped Dallas pull out to a 19-12 all-time record against Detroit. The Cowboys are 13-3 at home and 2-1 in playoff games against the Lions.
A 5-0 win in the 1970 Divisional round is the lowest scoring game in Cowboys’ history.
Mike Clark put Dallas up 3-0 with a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter at the Cotton Bowl. Lions’ quarterback Greg Landry was sacked in the endzone by George Andrie and Jethro Pugh in the fourth quarter for all of the scoring.
The lowest scoring regular season game for the Cowboys was a 6-0 win over the Eagles in the 2017 season finale.
Prescott’s 20-yard pass to Brice Butler in the fourth quarter accounted for all of the points. Dan Bailey missed the extra point attempt.
In the other two playoff meetings, Detroit clobbered Dallas 38-6 in the 1991 Divisional round.
The Cowboys won the rubber match, 24-20, in the 2014 Wild Card round.
All-Time Week 6 Record
Dallas has never faced Detroit in the sixth week of the season before this year.
The Cowboys are 32-25 all-time in the sixth week of the season. They are 19-9 when those games are played at home.
Dallas has had six bye weeks fall on Week 6 and lost the Week 6 game to the 1982 strike.
This will be the first home game in the sixth week for Dallas since 2020.
Dallas lost that game to Arizona.
The Cowboys defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on the road in last season’s Week 6 game.
That win improved their Week 6 road record to 13-16.
