NFL History: Cowboys enter the record books for the wrong reason

After a year of the Dallas Cowboys setting records in 2023 for all the right reasons, this season has been a complete 180.

As the Cowboys head into the bye week, they are 3-3, lucky to be .500, but you are what your record says you are.

Wins over the Browns, Giants and Steelers are not great, but they have done enough to stay in the thick of the NFC East race.

Yesterday against the Lions was the Cowboys’ largest home loss ever under Jerry Jones (since 1989) and it happened on Jones’ 82nd birthday.

Dating back to the playoffs, Dallas has allowed 167 points over its last 4 home games, the 3rd-most in a span of 4 home games in NFL history, including playoffs. Embarrassing.

Happy Birthday, Jerry

Jerry Jones’ comments after the game were just hilarious. He acted all shocked and surprised that this happened, when he knew he was the reason this offseason, this team got worse and not any better.

“We’ve certainly got a bye week, but there’s nothing magic about a bye week,” Jones said. “You can do some things differently [as far as] some of the things that bit us out there today. This was very concerning and it was very humbling and it was very — I felt bad.

Jerry, you don’t feel bad, so stop telling us that! It you felt sorry, you would have truly went all in like you lied about after the playoff loss a season ago.

The 167 points given up over its last 4 home games is a top five record you don’t want to be part of.

Remember this team once had a 16 game home winning streak.

“We all know you should feel better at home,” said Jones. “I think that is an advantage. You don’t travel. You sleep in your own bed. It should be an advantage at home and that’s one of the first things you look at.”

He is just saying stuff to say it, it is getting so old. I couldn’t have been happier that this on his birthday on national television.

What Does This Team Do Well?

Regardless of the injuries, what does this team do well? They can’t block, they can’t stop the run, nobody outside of CeeDee Lamb can get open.

Somehow, they are 3-3, and honestly, the winner of the NFC East might win 9 games, and that is being generous.

Everyone on this team has had “moments,” and in the National Football League, you aren’t going to win with moments, you have to show up and be good every single week.

Nobody does that on this team!

They say you are what your record says you are, but they are lucky to even be .500!

On 17 1st downplays, McCarthy called a run on 10 of those plays, but only averaged 1.1 yards per carry on those rushes. Constantly putting Dak and the offense on 2nd & 9 down and distance isn’t a recipe for success.

After establishing pre-snap motion and even orbit motion against the Steelers, all of a sudden McCarthy forgot how successful it was, and went back to a static formation on 90% of offensive plays.

After The Bye

The Cowboys have a bye week, and when they come out on the other side they very well could find themselves a few games under .500.

They play the 49ers on the road, then at Atlanta, which honestly could be a winnable game. That offense does not do the type of stuff that causes the Cowboys problems.

They then return home for a game against the Eagles that could be bigger than people think.

When they return home, they could very well be 3-5 and honestly add to this points record in the wrong way.

They keep setting records for the wrong reason.
